Can't agree on the Nourry statement Antti. Its called setting the agenda, and Nourry has done it superbly. If he had said nothing (or something very bland) and left Cardiff to simply announce Willock as a prize capture it would have looked weak and probably pissed off a number of QPR fans. Think it was important to explain to fans - still within the bounds of diplomacy and not overtly slagging the player off - that we are not going to cave into unrealistic wage demands, or beg players to stay when they are not committed. For all we know Willock snr was using the QPR offer that had been on the table for god knows how long to engineer a better offer from Cardiff. By publicly announcing his departure it stopped the Willocks using and abusing us.

You might think such news management is cynical but it is crucial in any public facing organisation. Fans complain when they are kept in the dark and here was the CEO, in as clear terms as he possibly could, explaining his decision to stand firm.

Look at the result. Judging by message board reaction I would say 80/90% of fans seem sanguine about Willock going, and the mood remains one of quiet optimism. To me the management of this situation represents a huge improvement on the days when we behaved with something approaching battered wife syndrome, and we just took what we were given. It was that kind of weakness that led us to overpay Johansen and Austin. Think we are sending a message that we will no longer be taken for mugs. And if it means letting go of a former fan-favourite and developing a younger, cheaper alternative, lets try that. There are a lot of good players out there and we have an exciting project to sell to players with the right attitude.

Long overdue show of steel in my view and well done the club.

That's why we need to change the electoral system. But the Tories can't credibly complain about that because they have been the beneficiary of an electoral system that routinely wins them majorities on 36-38% of the vote. Tony Blair failed to find any solution but he correctly said that the 20th century was a Conservative century primarily due to the split in the centre left vote between Labour and the Liberals. This time progressives voted tactically to get rid of the Tories. And for the first time ever the right-wing vote was split and the first past the post electoral system punished the Tories for it. I've no idea about your party loyalties mate but if the Tories are pissed off about that, how do you think progressive voters have felt for most of the last century when we have had to put up with Tory govt after Tory govt!

Am encouraged by the responses to the news on here. Partly of course its because Willock is a shadow of his former self and by some accounts a bit of a wrong 'un, so most were ambivalent at most about him. But a couple of seasons ago there might still have been an outcry that he had gone with no sign yet of a striker or another attacking player. The calm, mature reaction suggests to me that fans now are a) far more appreciative of the constraints we must work to, and b) more trusting in the new management team to bring in any necessary reinforcements and keep us at least competitive.

Highlights reel must make him look Premier League.

Hamstrings more like a plate of last night's spaghetti.

Attitude most commonly found in a correctional institution.

Courage less than that of an Italian tank commander in reverse gear...

Agree. Not a Labour supporter but not sure about the criticisms of shadow cabinet careers.

The Tories had Gavin Williamson who was a failed electric heater salesman.

Grant Shappps was revealed to have various alliases which he employed for nefarious business ventures.

Am not massively missing the self-entitled Old Etonians and Old Wickamists who think by virtue of their upbringings they have a right to rule.

I hate tribal politics and wish different parties could work together in the national interest but the Tory tribe can hardly complain if every couple of decades another tribe is allowed to temporarily run the country instead of them.

Unlikely he will be called to ask a question. Joy of being leader of a tiny party. Ed Davey was only called once every three weeks and wasn't allowed a follow up question and he had double the seats. For all this talk of "Nigel" he has 5 MPs out of 650. And before any Reform supporter mentions the unfairness of the electoral system, I would politely ask whether they ever complained about that when the centre party was routinely getting a quarter of the vote and about 3% of the seats over several decades.

I'm here for trying him as centre forward if the alternative first choice is Dykes...

Good news. Slightly odd he was in London - I think - last weekend yet hasn't apparently been signed yet? Surely it would have made sense to tie it up quickly and get him on the Spain tour? But probably more complex than I understand. Anyway am pleased this is the type of player we are now unearthing.

Nadine Dorris was completely mad. I couldn't believe she was allowed to dominate the programme. I kept thinking "millions of people have just voted to get the Tories out in large part because of their habit of treating running the country like a reality TV show where its all about who is up and who is down and who is friends with who, taking the public for granted." And here we were still having to listen to her like the Tories still matter. Haven't we earned a reprieve from their psycho drama?

You make a very good point.

Against that if you add up the votes of Labour, Lib Dems and Greens thats a lot more votes than the Tories and Reform got combined.

For all the media obsession about Nigel Farage - must have got ten times the coverage of the Lib Dems - they have ended up with four seats.

The media - and the Tories - have been dancing to Farage's tune for years. But what actually happened was we got rid of a right wing govt and replaced it with a centre left one.

Good post and agree. Except surely the best moments were seeing the end of Liz Truss and Jacob RM - far worse than Portillo ever was IMHO...

Am really torn on Willock. At his best he glides past players and looks of Premier League standard. But we saw far too little of that last season, be it due to deep-seated injury concerns or poor attitude. If he goes he is a hell of a talent to replace. But do we even want someone coming back for pre-season training a month late, unfit, only here because he couldn't get anything "better"? Am not sure that is great for team morale. Half of me thinks "Enjoy chasing munters on your endless summer holiday Chris, thanks for the memories".

Barrow? Says it all.

I wonder if in self-reflective moments he pauses to wonder if he should have put himself about more, strained every sinew, been braver in looking to move the ball forward, made greater use of his obvious raw talent; or whether he will just stroll about at Barrow wondering if his hair is looking nice and why managers are so blind to his brilliance.

Women's game transformed last 20 years. Used to be quite plodding outside the very top players, with very one-sided matches compared to the mens game. Now the power and technique is so good I often find myself switching to a women's match over a mens one.

Exactly. Voting for an independent is a completely wasted vote. Lib Dems got around 10% of the votes last time but about 2% of the vote. Reform voters will be similarly disappointed this time that they will get millions of votes and hardly any votes. For even smaller parties/ independents its all but impossible, unless they are a celebrity such as Martin Bell back in the day. We have a completely corrupt electoral system - hard even to call us a democracy in some ways - so under this system if you want your vote to count in a lot of seats you have to vote for the party you can just about stomach to beat the party that you absolutely can't stomach.

Yes indeed.

Hope they leave enough in the budget from their parachute payments for the light 11 signings he will demand in Jan because the squad's down to its bare bones.

Plus do they do knitwear in Burnley?

Yesterday she was back to her best. Don't want to add to the pressure/hype as with the England football team but if she plays that well she could go quite a long way in the tournament. For me she is a player you can really get behind - I always tried to like Andy Murray but found him quite dour and ungracious in post-match interviews. As others have said, hard not to warm to someone who plays with a smile on her face.
