Russell Martin Has To Target Three Crucial Experienced Signings
at 14:44:51

Agree with the basic three positions needed but not a sure that it will be straightforward. Bazunu is the long term choice but I think McCarthy will start as number one this year with a good squad player brought in as third choice
Downes is far from nailed on and will have some sort of exchange with KWP so a right back is needed. I'm hoping that Alcaraz and Dibling will be given a chance at number 10 under the guidance of Lallana but unsure if they are ready. Another striker is a must but not convinced it's Ings given age and injury record. We base so much on his purple patch during the Covid season.

New Reform MP Rupert Lowe Will Give His MP Salary To Charity
at 09:51:25

At least Rupert Lowe actually exists which apparently isnt necessarily the case for all the Reform candidates. I hope the media obsession with this fridge party and the hideous Farage goes away now the election is over. Forget the vote share, that's the political equivalent to loads of possession and no goals!

Olympique Lyonnais Takes Up Option On Duje Caleta-Car
at 09:44:54

If Stephens and Bednarek stay for this season, I suspect Wood and Edwards will begin to be integrated with a view to the future. I suspect THB will be sold at the end of the season hopefully for a profit. Not sure what contract situation is for Bednarek.

Southampton Keen On Signing Brighton keeper

Thinks it's just numbers until Bazunu returns. Not sure Steele will be number one. I still think it will be McCarthy.

Southampton Said To Have Agreed Terms With Brazilian Defender
at 12:08:14

Unless Bednarek or Stephens leave, we now have five central defenders. Does this suggest 3 at the back as the default formation. Surprised we are looking for another left back after Charlie Taylor. I'd anticipated Larios out on loan and Taylor, Manning and Frazer as left wing backs.

Saints Go To The Taylors As The Transfer Window Opens In Earnest
at 10:03:23

Seems pretty sensible business so far. Filling gaps rather than significant change. Next up a fourth centre back and a replacement for Che, I guess. KWP will be difficult to replace but I can see it happening if he doesn't want to sign a new contract and it oils the wheels for Flynn Downes. I think we'll end up being fairly solid but not sure where the Premier League creativity and clinical finishing will come from. Glad of RM gets a new contract as we need stability regardless of what the season brings in terms of results.

Saints Set To Agree Deal With Keeper

Disappointed if true. Even forgetting his inability to play out from the back McCarthy is not a really good keeper when we are under the cosh! Money must be tight but a false economy for me.

Liverpool Put £20 Million Price Tag On Saints Target

Certainly a position we need to fill. Especially if Alcaraz is being moved on. Lallana will only be a part time player in that position which I feel is key to survival next year. I know little about this lad.

Southampton And Tottenham Negotiating Player Plus Cash Swap Deal

I think highfield49 is probably right. But I'm concerned that we will have a lot of solid hard working championship players without the flair that Alcaraz brings to potentially win tight games.

Southampton Linked With Move For Fulham Midfielder
at 13:22:36

Agree with the post. We don't have the money to pay big transfer fees. I hope we make a few additions, manage to
keep Downes KWP and Frazer and add some free transfers/ loans. I also really hope that Alcaraz, Edozie, Charles and Kamaldeen can make the grade this year and start becoming the players we hoped they would be.

Not for me either. Don't expect a lot of game time from Lallana and even less from Ings. Much prefer Ben Brereton- Diaz.

Southampton Back For Third Attempt To Sign Defender
at 16:58:43

I think from RM's perspective Stephens and Bednarek tick the "experienced PL central defenders box". So I think the fourth centre back has to be one currently in development and not necessarily first choice. £5-8 million on Wood seems plausible.

It's Official Adam Lallana Returns To Southampton
at 11:39:20

My memory is of the Cortese/Pochetino cult going sour with the inevitable break up of the team. Lallana was just part of that and the media only ever see our players as additions to the rich elite when we are doing well. Don't care about the past but wonder how much he has to offer in a relegation battle.

Southampton Linked To Reunion With Armando Broja
at 15:40:28

Agree with last comment. Hope it's just lazy journalism that links us with Broja, JWP, Ings, Lallana etc. New start, give the promoted players a chance and add some genuinely new faces ( plus Flynn Downes of course)

Would Southampton Fans Welcome Back Adam Lallana To St Mary's
at 15:13:17

Of all our past players, the one I'd choose would be Ori Romeu. If we had him and Flynn Downes in the centre midfield we would be a much stronger team. His ball retention in fantastic and would be great for Russell.

Should Russell Martin Put Out Another Reserve Side For Leeds United Trip

I'm guessing it will be a mix, leaving out those critical players - Downes, Adams, Armstrong, KWP but including those still pushing to be part of the play off squad.

Southampton V Stoke City The Verdict
at 13:25:01

This time last year Saints were a shambolic embarrassment with a bloated squad full of youngsters and under achievers. An awful lot has been achieved over the year and a fourth place finish is about right for this group of players and the manager. Cardiff knocked the stuffing out of a tired squad and Leicester and Stoke have benefitted. If RM and the players manage to turn this around and get to the play-off final they will deserve real credit for their resilience.
