I thought he was going to get pipped by the French that were chasing. I turned around for a second and he clawed back the deficit to overtake the Kiwi. Unbelievable where he found that extra energy from.
The only semi good thing about this ceremony so far. It has been boring AF for most of it.
I thought the concept of it going down the Seine was a good idea but I didn't realise how hard it would be to pull off. I guess the organisers didn't either. What's with the Assassin's Creed torch bearer on the rooftops?
Fair play to the performers for performing in this weather though. Not seen anyone stack it yet.
I lived in East London during the 2012 games, there was such a buzz around the city. It was great. I hope Parisians are having the same feeling but I feel it might be slightly muted with the terrorism being on the highest alert there and lots of army/police deployed in the city.
In other news did you see this...a hockey player broke his finger 2 weeks ago, it would have ruled him out of the Olympics so he decided instead to CHOP HIS BLOODY FINGER OFF! If he doesn't win gold is it going to be worth it?
This might be geo blocked in the UK but well worth trying to find the video of John Oliver on Last Week Tonight talking this week about "Migrant Crime" in the US. A lot of hate-mongering among the likes of Fox News, spreading lies about the amount of crime committed by migrants. Crime numbers have actually been going down in the US but if you're watching Fox News it will paint a picture that crime is on the rise and it's all down to the people crossing the border. Fox have been constantly pushing this narrative since the start of 2024 because that's what Trump wants them to push.
I think they need to look a little closer to home before going after FIFA. When the Premier League season finished, Tottenham and Newcastle both flew down to Australia for an extra game, they are both also out in Japan for a pre season tour. If clubs were actually concerned about players well-being they would not be playing these games so far away. It's always and only ever about the money.
I live in central Europe with a similar climate to the UK (slightly warmer). We have an abundance of bugs here, I'm constantly getting bitten by them...you are welcome to have some of them. I slept with our bedroom window slightly open the other night and a grasshopper managed to find its way to landing on me while I was sleeping. Our cat comes in with ticks on his body most days, sometimes multiple. I never saw a tick once in the UK.
What's going on at Birmingham? Breaking the League One transfer record 3 times this summer now they've had a bid of £5.5 million accepted for Jay Stansfield after already spending £12 million so far this summer. Are there different financial rules in League One?
Seems like a lot of people are backing Harris and seems the likely option. I saw Michelle Obama was trending yesterday, I think she would be a popular option among Democrats.
