There are already synthetic oils made for car engines and synthetic greases too and "synthetic bitumen is used in roads, bicycle lanes, bus lanes, pedestrian areas and motorway tunnels. The clear binder can be pigmented for aesthetic or safety reasons".

Maybe that is Southgate and the policeman is managing the England team?!

I don't think Netherlands dominated the second half at all. They pretty much reverted to 'doing an England' because they couldn't cope with us in the first half.
Sure, they may have had more possession but they didn't dominate. They had a good free kick which Pickford saved well from, hit the cross bar and we then hit the post so that evens that out

What were the 3 'big' wrong decisions? The penalty was contentious but seems to have been awarded as per the LotG today, not from 20 years ago.

There was a corner not given as it lightly brushed one of our defenders thigh but I recall we had a corner not given agaisnt Swiitzerland but we've seen corners (or throw-ins) not given for decades so as annoying as it is, it's hardly 'big'.

What about the time when two balls were on the pitch? We were absolutely flying at that point and Walker was about to put in a dangerous cross but the ref stopped play (IMO the ball was not interfering with play and could easily have be taken off the pitch). There was a stop in play and a drop kick which Walker played backwards and from that point Netherlands seemed to be able to regroup (which they didn't have the chance to do so before such was our pressing) and that's when our intensity was abated due to them adjusting.

I have no problem either with any player/agent/dad etc demanding £xxxx but more concerned about clubs that cave in to that demand or players who then have a strop when they don't get it.

Gone to Cardiff. I mean, Cardiff. Clearly all about the money. No one goes to Cardiff to win things (yeah, yeah, I know, same could be said of us!)

I'm not sure what the LotG were at the time but the initial pull was outside the box and continued inside. One's thing's for sure, Koeman should have been given a red either way.

As with anything in football it's only good if you win but it was bad/wrong if you lose.

penatlties... team selection...tactics...substitutions....

Although people's alliances tends to shift from left to right as they get older, maybe this crop of OAP Tory's will die out leaving the next lot of OAP's more central/central-left leaning?

I guess we'll know in the next 10-15 years.

I'm just waiting for the results from last week to come out to see the turnout of the 18-25 age group.

Who will Hasselbaink be supporting on Wednesday?
at 17:31 8 Jul 2024

One of the reasons Germany have been so good at penalties is that they take them very seriously and always practice them after they got caught out in Euro '76.

They lost the final on penalties, and to the famous 'Panenka' kick too, and vowed not to repeat that again.

He can't lose, either way one of 'his' teams will be in the final. So, I just hope he gives 100% for England as that's who he is employed by.

I enjoyed those moments, of course, it was the other bits in between that were a bit pedestrian.

Much like the 2014 play off final, 89 minutes of hard watch then wallop!

I'm not expecting Harlem Globetrotter-esque football (though it would be nice!) but just saying that this tournament reminds me of our 2014 promotion season..... not pretty but job done.

Oh yes, much worse but they usually lost because of that. My point is that successful teams are often good to watch. It’s not, but we’re getting through. Much like Mourhinho!!

This tournament for England is reminding me of our 2013/2014 promotion season.

Winning things usually involves enjoying it along the way. The Division 2/Championship titles under Venables and Warnock, that type of thing.

That 2014 promotion was awful. Yes, we were winning games but it was turgid all along the way, much like this tournament.

Still, we’re almost there so I’d grudgingly take that if it means winning the Euro for the first time and a major international trophy in my lifetime which is already long enough as it is.

Top Gear is not really about cars, well, not the latter seasons with Jezza & co. More about three blokes on a jaunt and farting around. If you put the ‘car’ element to one side it’s not a bad watch.

Difficult for me to select one overall favourite car as there are so many, old and new.

In no particular order, if i won the euro lottery i’d buy an industrial unit and fill it with some of these;

E type Jag
Aston Martin DB12
Ferrari F430
Mercedes C63 AMG
Ford Escort MKI Mexico 1800
Toyota Land Cruiser
Ford Mustang fastback
Alfa Romeo 4C

There are many more so i may need to buy the whole industrial estate.

Oh, and it would also be filled with an equal number of motorbikes;

Ducati 916
Honda Fireblade ‘tiger’ design
Suzuki RG500
Yamaha ‘big bang’ R1
Harley Davidson Fat Boy
BMW RG1250
Kawasaki KR1S
Kawasaki GPz900
Triumph Speed triple

Another hard watch but better than the previous games. Fair play to Switzerland, thought they’d played really well this tournament.

Nice to get 5 solid pens, thought Pickford did ok…. he saved one after all which was a massive contribution to winning the shoot out.
