There were a couple of police officers filming from the front of the stand for most of the game as well. |

I think he played number seven in a midweek game at Doncaster? I couldn’t go as it was a school night! The team were short of goals and Joe Fletcher had a handful of games there as well before Norman Whitehead reclaimed that particular shirt. |

Think he started off as a forward but was converted to a midfielder and took Vinny Leech’s number 4 shirt. |

This maybe a complete urban myth but I’m sure that I read somewhere when he was playing that before he’d signed for Dale as a youngster that he’d worked on the bins in Accrington? |

Minutes silence or applause in order on Saturday? RIP to a key player at a great time to be a Dale fan. |

I actually thought for a split second that Gilmour was going to score last night. Great block from a Halifax defender. |

Halifax’s substitutions changed the game. I’m not sure that Dale’s did. |

Ironic I suppose that it was Hoti who missed the penalty. Former players invariably seem to score against their old clubs. I can only echo what has been alluded to earlier in the thread about the only discernible tactic being to get round the back and blast the ball across the face of the goal. It’s very rarely that someone gets on the end of one of these but it’s not just Mitchell at fault here but also whoever is upfront with him eg Ayinde, McBride. If Mitchell goes to the front post for these deliveries then someone else should be attacking the back post. The ball is never cut back into the penalty area for someone running onto it because no-one does that; out of four in midfield two are stationed wide on the flanks and the central pair are not really attack minded. We desperately need a centre forward. Mitchell is 27 and isn’t going to improve. If the team is to be developed year on year a la Gateshead then he needs to be released in summer and a better alternative sourced. The research should be going on now, not in July. He’s not a natural goal scorer although he’s scored some nice goals, he can’t hold the ball up. Hendo showed exactly how it can be done in his late cameo. One thing that did strike me last night was the number of times that a dogged Halifax side were caught offside. They’re a solid, hard working team but Dale can be much better than them if they are the yardstick for a playoff side. The fact remains though that Waller made two good saves to keep the scoreline blank whilst I can’t remember their keeper having to make anything more than a routine contribution. Credit to the travelling support, loud and vocal although I’m not too sure about the toilet seat….. |

I’ve just noticed that the “Halifax Courier” has referred to the Dale keeper as “Walker” which makes me suspect that theprinted teamsheet provided for the media might be incorrect in the first place? |

Ninth tonight after the final whistles but down to 11th at one stage. Seven points off a playoff place but with a minimum of four games in hand on everyone above and five games on some. |

Good news and evidence that the foundations are being put in place for a sustainable business with a clear plan. I might have been tempted to add another position, that of a person with an accountancy background as Financial Controller with the brief to scrutinise every penny going out and every penny of revenue and to have a holistic approach to procurement. The rump of the old board should be non-executive directors at best. |

Living in Calderdale I see quite a few Halifax fans on a regular basis. Despite their league position the consensus is that their home form is mediocre at best. They’re in the top seven mainly courtesy of a good away record. They looked a decent team at Spotland in October. The last three home games have seen wins over Boston (1-0), and Ebbsfleet (2-0) with a 2-1 defeat to AFC Fylde sandwiched in between which isn’t too bad on the face of it though. They tend to blame three factors - the pitch, an over cautious manager and a lack of atmosphere (the average attendance since the New Year is a tad over 1500). The opinion is that any team which is well drilled with a compact defence will stifle the home team. Unless they have managed to get onto the pitch to roll it and do some other remedial work this week it will be extremely bald and bumpy. Hopefully BJ and his staff will have done their homework and plan accordingly. |

Given that there is a choice of sitting down the side of the pitch or standing behind the goal on Wednesday night where are people planning to watch the game from? |

I was thinking more of associated costs eg transport, food and drink, programme, halftime draw. Costs which increase if you take the family. |

It will be interesting to how many season ticket holders have taken up the option by close of play on Wednesday. You’d like to think that most will have done so but fears about the pitch plus the cost of a forthcoming glut of fixtures may deter some people I suppose. I go in the Sandy so the deadline doesn’t apply and I’m hoping to buy a ticket for this cup tie in person before the game this Saturday. I’ll be asking for a paper copy as I don’t trust my antiquated relic of a phone! |

I always thought it was absolutely scandalous what happened to Park Avenue. Had some good awaydays there with Dale. Great ground (and with the cricket ground next door as well) and a decent history. You can still see traces of the old ground if you look carefully enough. |

The Shay pitch is atrocious at the moment and the weather forecast shows rain all week. A local journalist refers these days to Halifax playing on “home soil” but that dirt is bumpy and rutted. |

As the saying goes, although perhaps not in the same context, “two’s company, three’s a crowd”. |
