It seems that we have missed out on Delap and tbh I don’t know if that’s a loss or not. I don’t see Ings as being the man to score enough to keep us up. I’m a little more positive about Stewart than most but I still think we need a proper goal scorer, which Adams is not.. hence I’m not disappointed to see him go.
As last year showed, you have little chance of survival if you don’t show the intent and invest in a couple of top players. Sure it’s no guarantee but if you don’t bring in the quality, you don’t succeed. So I hope we search for a £30m striker and the same value playmaking midfielder. With the cheap purchases we’ve made and the two on free, the option is there to buy a couple of top players. |

Feels like they’re at the end of their roads, nowhere to turn so they’re coming back to us playing on the roots, etc. That said I think Lallana is a great move for us on the coaching front as much as playing. |

I think to say he went for the big money is a misrepresentation. He won a Premier League title and the Champions League! Yes, maybe if we’d have kept all our best players we might have been a challenge to the top 4 but Liverpool were likely to challenge for silverware.
Sure the way he signed the Liverpool shirt for that young lad was really poor but when compared to what he gave us as a player, becomes insignificant. For me, this is a very smart move for many reasons and I don’t think he’s burnt out having had few full seasons in his career due to injury. Welcome back Adam, looking forward to seeing him score in our shirt again! |

Not gonna lose too much sleep about this guy if we were after him. I would have hoped that there were a few decent keepers out there looking at us as a great option. It’s always a bit difficult to assemble the new squad in summers where there’s a tournament. With so many teams having to tighten belts and wheel n deal a little more, it could be the start of August before we know if we get all of our main targets or plan b. It could be a manic couple of weeks with not much pre season for the new players. I just hope we can sign Downes so we have some continuity. |

Good article Matt, totally agree that Martin has been amazing for us, changing the mentality to a winning one full of belief and fun. The style of play is attractive and this after a huge team rebuild.
Chesham Saint, I have no idea what you’re talking about.. No relegation doesn’t signify a club in turmoil, I don’t think that’s the case for Luton, Burnley or Sheffield United this year. However, we were in turmoil, coming bottom with boring football and a green looking ownership after 3 failed managers in the season. We then had our spine removed and you only have to look at who started at the weekend compared to last season. Only really Armstrong and KWP survived and McCarthy has only recently been involved. Smallbone was on loan, THB loan in, Downes loan in, Fraser loan in, Stephens was out on loan, Aribo non existent, Brooks loan in.. So we lost Lavia and JWP etc and had to replace them and completely rebuild apart from a few. Leicester kept more of their spine and experience and Ipswich were like us in 2012. No shock considering how highly their manager is rated and the experience he has from Spurs and Man U..
So to turn so much around and unite 99% of the fans, play attractive football and show the know how at the crunch to get us through the playoffs is a phenomenal achievement. I doff my cap.
In Russell we have an energetic, passionate and smart man at the helm and I’m confident his ways will keep us in the Prem beyond next season. |

Still think the kit we wore when we beat them 3 weeks ago is the right one. Aesthetics aren’t as important as psychology for me.. We will have plenty of colour in the stands anyway. I don’t think it’s hard to predict the Leeds line up either so I don’t think they have that early advantage and it probably doesn’t matter when the team is announced, it’s about who rises to the challenge on the day and has that bit of luck. Leeds are still favourites with the bookies so we go in as the underdogs and I personally prefer that pressure on them..
Stephens has indeed proved many wrong and at least silenced others in the last couple of games and has showed what a presence he can be but agree he will need the help of Manning to deal with Gnonto while KWP covers Summerville. If we keep those 2 quiet, we should win the game. COYS! |

Solid professional performance. Didn’t panic, knew we were the better team, kept our shape and discipline then took our chances. Only one team went out to win the game. I agree with JamesHill in hoping that there is no moaning or criticism of any individual or the manager this week and that we’re all together as one to take on Leeds. I think it was plain to see that Martin knew the right team line up, set up and changes to make. Whatever happens next weekend, those who dislike Martin and his style should appreciate the turnaround in mentality we have had at the club since he arrived. We are completely different now to a year ago..
Final comment is about McCarthy who has been the right choice to replace Bazunu so far and Martin deserves credit for getting that right. Cool and calm under pressure.

Don’t agree with your summary of the season, so I don’t think tomorrow is about ‘putting things right’. 87 points enough for automatic in 2012, don’t recall you bemoaning Adkins, in fact nothing except high praise. Your view on Martin is so childish it’s embarrassing. Same to those who call for Martin to go, 7 year old mentality.
We didn’t have the best team in the league, Leicester did and they cheated. We lost our star signing all season but these facts somehow escape your analysis as it doesn’t suit your rhetoric.

Downes and Smallbone first class and Stephens had a magnificent game in various roles. Defensively we were solid aside from the one moment where 2 errors resulted in their goal but when you analyse it, there was a lack of movement and options for the player in possession. It’s a team game, we defend from the front and attack from the back. I thought McCarthy looked settled, dare I say comfortable. KWP looked a bigger threat first half with the freedom with 3 centre backs. Might be the way Martin wants to set up at Brom next Sunday.
Finally those of you moaning about Martin… we ended the season on 87 points, only 1 point less than under Adkins 2012. Indeed, 3rd placed West Ham ended with 86, so our 87 this year would have been enough for automatic in 2012. Stick that in your dumbarsed pipes and smoke it.. and this in the toughest season ever in this league and after losing our engine room a few weeks into the season.. Our performance yesterday and result was because we had togetherness and leadership on the pitch. At which school did you learn that each time you concede a goal, it means you have no leadership..? Other teams are allowed to have moments too. Yesterday we showed we have what it takes to at least get to the final and that with 87 points is a fantastic season. |

No pressure on Huddersfield and plenty of nerves for Ipswich. They deserve second but anything can happen on the last day so I expect Farke to put out a full strength side. As for us, as mentioned above by some, we should give an opportunity to and trust our youth. Meghoma, Lumley, Dibling and Ameyaw at least. I also couldn’t care less about other clubs and league integrity, it’s about us doing what we need to in readiness for playoffs. Agree Sulemana should start and Stewart to see grass at some point. Wouldn’t play Downes unless he really needs to, he’s the one who makes the difference, it will be a tall order without him next week, etc |

Those of you moaning about Martin and want him out, when in 4th spot and in the playoffs, you are the problem. This constant negativity is infectious and picked up on by all. If you don’t believe that then you must believe that there is no point in home fans creating an atmosphere.. so those who keep digging at the manager and captain are the problem, the people creating the division and you are a disgrace to the club. Ffs we are in the playoffs after having our squad ravaged and losing 4 on the bounce!! Then came our record unbeaten run and you want the manager out? Take off your big red noses just for a moment.. This achieved in the toughest Championship ever, many high quality teams, new manager and set up for us, best players sold in the summer. The manager has rotated and rested players when he has thought it necessary. Confusing to you maybe, highly logical to many of us. Saturday was a dead rubber, we can’t finish higher or lower, so give some a game and rest others without them becoming rusty. Again all made sense. HB was really poor for the goal and had his worst half so was hooked at ht. No shame, he’s been out best CB for me. Downes hardly kicked a ball for a couple of weeks so he needed a few mins, again highly logical in prep for the playoffs.
Finally the hypocrisy.. how can you call on the fans to get behind the team when you are the most vocal in doing the opposite? When will you realise how classless it is to slag off your manager before the season has ended and we might be going up? When will you ditch your love for Charlie idiot Austin and back the captain of your club now?
Yes I still remember the roots of your dislike for Stephens after the disgraceful behaviour of your mate Austin, so just a reminder to you that these things stay with some readers. That idiot couldn’t even play 90 mins more than once a month if at all.
Oh and by the way, as far as I know we haven’t broken FFP rules so we’ve also had a season competing against cheats.
Edozie should start for me ahead of Fraser. The wee man can’t play 90 mins at full tilt anymore and was so effective for us off the bench. Do you really think it was an audition or was that just another cheap dig? Because in the last couple of must win games, he started with Jack on the bench.. you’re so transparent and the attempts to backtrack are an insult to the reader, as noted by a couple of others on here…
It’s about time you got behind the team Nick, we have as much chance as any and as mentioned above the end of season form doesn’t always historically count for much..
