Nothing on the OS yet. Anyway, a fantastic servant who will be badly missed for his versatility and goals. He might not have been perfect in every role but he was a vital player who was probably a bit underrated by many. Think we’ll realise how crucial he was in the season ahead. Good luck to him. |

We were playing it quite a bit at the end of last season when Rodney returned and it didn’t work that well. It can be an option during a game, but if we aren’t playing direct football - get it wide, get crosses in - then we need someone to link midfield and attack. We were at our best when Ryan East played that role. |

The differences between England’s and Dale’s style of play are clarified further in this Twitter thread. The only similarity is the supporter frustration when either team is not playing in its most effective manner.

Ah, you’re one of those people who ignore what has been said previously. There are others in this thread who have form for that. |

While that was awful to watch, it was completely different issues to those at Dale. At least we can pass the ball properly most of the time! Tactically England are set up to sit deep and defend, that’s on Southgate. As is his decision to allow Kane to drop deep. Whatever we all think about McNulty, you can at least see what his tactics hope to achieve, even though they need to be more varied. With England it’s a “get a goal, see the game out” mentality that has come up short far too often. Chalk and cheese. Well, apart from the frustration attached. |

We got percentages of anything above the original fee. So if the buying club sold for more than they bought a player from Dale then we got that percentage. If there was then a sell on in the next deal (Lambert going from Southampton to Liverpool) we got a percentage of a percentage. That’s why the deals can be very lucrative above an original fee. Out of interest where are the percentage figures for the Lambert and Hogan deals coming from? Is anyone actually sure how much we made on any of the transfers? [Post edited 14 Jun 7:57]

Going off the fact that the Dunphy and Parkin/Hill era when we were seen as a well run lower league club with a model where producing and improving players to sell and benefit long term from was out model. Lambert/ALF/Murray/Hogan/Dawson etc all brought in a total running into millions after they moved over a longer period of time. Of course we don’t know for certain, but it was a model we all accepted worked. Even if we’d have liked bigger initial fees. |

The fact remains that as a club, Dale have always benefitted more from add-ons. We’d have been in financial trouble a lot earlier if we hadn’t had that model in place. It worked. There are examples of some not coming to fruition of course (Matheson, Adshead), but imagine if we’d insisted on 500k from Bristol Rovers and they agreed but with no sell on clause. Is a 750k today with nothing in the future better than 300k today and a possible future 2.5 million ? All about the details of each deal. |

I’m sure we have asked for more money on initial fees down the years, and on occasion we should have got more at that stage. Balancing that against the fact that add-ons will always be the most lucrative part of the deal for a club like us is the point. And we have, more often than not, got that right. |

Except Lambert and Le Fondre were sold under totally different circumstances and in both cases we made much more than the initial fees because of the add ons - which might have been less of the original fee was larger.. It’s all relative and it’s hard to compare the modern game with the past and what fees should be at our level now. 300-500k might be about right if the rest of the deal adds up. You have faith in the current regime making the right decisions for the club and the player. |

It’s an interesting signing as Gordon progressed well at the end of the season and was a consistent player at right back. It could be an indication where we may be more flexible tactically as Gordon has played centrally, so he could play on the right of a back three and TAR at wing back - something Keohane is capable of on the other side. |

Has he signed a new deal for Wolves? Only had a quick look and it says his contract expires at the end of the month. |

And yet Mitchell has proven to be effective when we have gone direct in behind. The biggest change on that front was losing Moulden. Have a feeling he could be the literal no.1 target this summer. |

Whilst sharing the concerns around inflexibility in how we play, especially when it’s been proven we are better when we are mixing up our style, the end of season results and commitment from the club and the Ogdens have established McNulty’s position. It would undermine and weaken that position if any changes to the coaching/first team management set up occurred without him initiating them. So it’s a non-starter. The main wish is he acknowledges supporter feelings and utilises the more positive aspects of our play, more regularly. |

It’s understandable that a significant regime change will lead to a period of assessment, with some things maybe under review. However, it’s really hoped that the fans meeting next Monday will see the beginning of a significant change in approach to maximising what resource we do have to engage the fans and the town. At the moment it’s got a feeling of we’re all waiting to see what the future looks like. Monday should give us all a better picture. |

I enjoyed the Cup Final. Two different styles and United won it by going direct and defending well. Guardiola out-thought himself and lost it by playing a normal back four for the first half. |
