RIP Sinéad.

Honestly what a superb and lovely voice, she certainly went through some tragedies In her short life.

My Father had a profound influence on me, he was a lunatic.

You would struggle to find a better vocal performance than on Nothing compares to 2 U or a better cover version for that matter. Really sad

Sat next to her on a flight to Lisbon (in the smoking section!) in mid-90s...we chatted, she invited me to her outdoor gig in Lisbon the following day. I declined as i had other plans...regretted it many times since...she was gentle, funny and sweet.

Sad for the girl.
Very troubled soul
When her son committed suicide a while back this end game was always a fear.

Cherish and enjoy life.... this ain't no dress rehearsal

One of the most beautiful women I ever met. Inside and outside.

Back in 1990 (ish, or about that time) she used to live in Gospel Oak near where I worked and we met in a shop. She recognised my accent and she started chatting, nervously, just wanting to chat about Ireland and home.

Two young Irish kids, stranded and lonely. Not sure which of us was the shyer.

We met a good few mornings over the next while. She just wanted to talk about home, I just wanted to listen, was awestruck at first but found my voice after a few meetings. She was a caring person. Very lovely. Easy to chat to.

Always admired her a lot over the years, even for all the controversy that followed.
Always felt for her, when she revealed her accusations of abuse.
Always admired her, as she sought out new faiths and new religions.
In her later years she became an excellent local journalist down our way. She never, ever, gave up the search for truth.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam an-usaal, a stór.

Her high point. A moulding of an ancient Irish poem "Táim sínte ar do thuama" to then-modern beats. It was a clarion call (04:20) for the tradional Irish music movement. She was 23.

What a lovely story. A far cry from the tortured soul portrayed by the media.

RIP SOC.

Powerful tribute Brian sorry for your loss and everybody close to Sinead .
Loved her voice and even with all her incredible songs I kept coming back to the cover of Light Up during covid it found its way into my soul.
Once her son died I knew it was close to the end for her a heart can only break so many times .
RIP hope she is at peace tonight she has earned that

Nice words, Bannerman, but I hadn't met the Lady in thirty years.
Thanks all the same.

RIP legend, wasn't just her singing voice that was important. Very sad news.

This performance at Conor McGregor's fight is spine tingling stuff:

This track is a new one for me. It's absolutely fantastic, but quite sad to listen to that this morning.

Will be playing a late performance of 'Nothing Compares 2U' to my students today as my small act of homage. Not just an utterly riveting musician, but a true role model to all those of us who seek to do the difficult thing of going against the consensus, driven by passion and vision. Who can forget how she stood up to those baying hordes at that Dylan show in Madison Square Garden with such vulnerability, stoicism and serenity after the Pope photograph episode that got her a lifetime ban from Saturday Night Live? Kris Kristofferson comforted her as she left the stage that shameful day in American history, and his duet with her of 'Help Me Make It Through the Night' I also find truly affecting.

I always liked this song. Would have made a good Bond theme.

Did not appear to enjoy living but losing her son at 17 last year, probably created an even more challenging existence on this planet of ours.

And as others have said, however it works, am glad for her, that she is now resting and at peace.

RIP.
