Clubs worst ever players. on 15:58 - Mar 24 with 9115 views | pioneer | maybe better titled worst player seen in the time watching Dale. there must have been some right doozies in the 1930s a decade from hell. In my own time...60s onwards...it would have to be Roger Denton, a full back in the 73-74 nightmare season on loan, i think from Oldham. I still wake up in the middle of the night with cold sweats having dreamt we resigned him. I suspect he was a mate of Walter Joyce. The ball seemed to mysteriously take on the shape of a cube just before it reached him. At least that is the only explanation I have for the way he misplaced every ball that came his way. Hopefully he found his calling in life....somewhere in outer Mongolia preferably. As a kid he was the only player whose autograph I deliberately destroyed.

One club he played at the team were known as " Ten clowns and a performing Seal " so he must have been ok at one time. My all time worst was a lad called McKenzie who played left wing about 1964, I can't recall his first name
Clubs worst ever players. on 17:02 - Mar 24 with 8957 views | R17ALE | You don't have to look beyond the Barrow era for numerous candidates who remarkably all played in the same team. Mark Leonard, Andy Morris, Andy Farrell, Andy Gouck, Andy Fensome, Paul Sparrow, Jason Lydiate, and the worst of the lot, Mark Bailey. How we didn't go down with that lot remains a mystery!

'Duffer' Don McKenzie. I'd have to nominate Alan Young, Les Strong, Vernon Allatt, along with others mentioned above.

Anyone who ever saw him play would put Mark Carter in their best ever Bury XI.

great call Vernon Allat. at that time it was being left with the only bird left at the school dance at the end of the night, nobody wanted him and nobody wanted to play for us. Phil Ashwoth is another around that time...although to be fair I suspect he was done injury wise when we signed him.

Paul Sparrow is always the first name that I think of when this topic appears on here. An honourable mention for Marcus Barnes-Homer too.

We got Phil Ashworth after Southport lost their league status. He went on to Pompey when we released him and then started scoring goals !!

That's him. I remember the famous Brighton game when Bert Lister and Norman Gall got sent off. The Brighton right back had to go off injured early on and the Brighton right half marked Big Reg and McKenzie all on his own. Pre substitutes of course. A lad called Ronnie Rees I think , top player, he was destined for big things.. He got killed in car crash a month or two later. McKenzie never got a kick ! [Post edited 24 Mar 2017 17:32]

Clubs worst ever players. on 17:28 - Mar 24 with 8863 views | seasidedale | Worst goalkeeper was def Matt Dickins, worst out field player Simkins, a player who considering he never made a tackle had a very high booking rate. Remember roger denton thankfully only played a couple of games. To be mentioned in dispatched Roger Jones (we paled £4k for him in 1972a massive amount by our standards) graham Shaw, Steve Elliot, paul briers, virtually everyone from the 72-73 season could go on and on but wont

Elliott wasn't that bad. I remember him scoring at Grimsby and a few decent performances. At least not as bad as that Richard Sharp from the USA.

What about Simon jones ,has to be one of the worst dale keepers. he bent down to pick a soft backpass up in the days when you could, it went through his legs into the back of the net.

Lance Key was the worst keeper I've seen at Dale. Seen these threads on here before so I am reluctant to reel off names, but Chris Lee has to be in that list.
