"It is with much sadness that we have to announce the immediate closure of Oakwood Theme Park and confirm the park will not open for the 2025 season.
Following a strategic review of the business, Aspro Parks, owner and operator of Oakwood Theme Park have reached this difficult decision due to the challenges presented by the current business environment.
All possible avenues have been explored to avoid the closure, and we fully recognise the impact of the closure on the local community and the loss that will be felt as a result.
Aspro Parks has invested over £25M since rescuing the park from being at risk of closure in 2008. Most recently a major refurbishment of Megafobia, the iconic wooden rollercoaster was completed to great success and acclaim from enthusiasts and fans of the park.
Despite the ongoing investment visitor numbers have declined, the financial performance of the park has suffered, making further investment unsustainable.
The unrelenting economic challenges ahead, increases in costs, affecting all areas of the operation from; ride parts to electricity costs, food and beverage inflation, increases in NLW and changes to national insurance thresholds have all impacted the decision.
A statement from Aspro Parks Group said “in the entire history of Aspro we have never closed any park or attraction. We, and our dedicated team of staff has strived to overcome numerous challenges to continue to bring joy to families and visitors across the region and country. Unfortunately, we could no longer see a sustainable way forward and will seek to improve our other parks using the assets and where possible team elsewhere”.
We are aware that Oakwood has been a much-loved destination for generations and a rite of passage for many young visitors. It is for this reason we feel such a sense of sadness.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedication and commitment of our team members past and present, suppliers and contractors who have loyally supported us and of course all those that have visited Oakwood Theme Park over the years. We are sincerely grateful.

"Energy bills for a typical household will rise by more than £100 a year in April under regulator Ofgem's new cap - a higher than expected increase adding pressure on people's finances.
The 6.4% increase means a household using a typical amount of gas and electricity will see their annual bill rise by £111 a year, or £9.25 a month, taking the total bill to £1,849 a year."

"Swansea City Under-21s were beaten on home soil as Queens Park Rangers took the spoils in their Professional Development League encounter at the Joma High Performance Centre.
Former Swansea scholar Kieran Petrie netted a hat-trick for the visitors, whilst his R's teammate Emmerson Sutton also grabbed two goals within the space of seven minutes.
The Swans were left to rue wasting a number of first-half chances, with Sam Parker and Sammy Henia-Kamau among those to be denied by QPR keeper Joel Halliday.
Nathan Tjoe-A-On and Parker came into the team from the senior set-up to get valuable game time, while first-year scholar Harlan Perry was also among the starters.
And the hosts started brightly, with Parker's lovely ball finding Henia-Kamau's run, only for Jack Leahy to cover and clear for the away side.
Parker was soon showing his pace again, gliding away from his man after being found by Josh Pescatore and setting up Henia-Kamau, who saw his shot blocked by Halliday.
Parker's close-range effort from a Dan Watts' lay-off was also saved, while Henia-Kamau saw one effort blocked and a header cleared off the line as the Swans carved out chance after chance.
Petrie headed a chance straight into the gloves of Kit Margetson at the other end, but it was a brief respite for QPR.
Parker and Ramon Rees-Siso fired over before Halliday was at the ready again to parry away a powerful drive from Henia-Kamau.
Having spurned those openings, the Swans were punished just before the break as Petrie's long-range effort found the net via the inside of the far post.
QPR doubled their lead early in the second period, Petrie on hand to convert after a corner had found him at close range.
Sutton then put the game to bed with a pair of fantastic strikes from distance, both of which found the top corner of the net in the space of a matter of minutes.
And Petrie would round off the scoring in stoppage time as he lofted the ball over Margetson after being found in space. "

"Riza was afforded to give his version of events and claimed that Franco had goaded him all game and believed some of the tackles he produced during the match also played a part in why he reacted in such a way. He even claimed that Franco raised his arm in a "reckless manner" which, in his opinion, was tantamount to violent conduct.
“Firstly, in respect of my personal circumstances. As I’m sure you will be able to empathise, the 48 hours leading up to the fixture following the death of my father were extremely emotional and taxing; however, I am certain that I made the right decision to lead the team into this match as normal," Riza said.
"I would like to apologise for my reaction to the provocation pitchside; as I’m sure all who have worked with me can attest, this was a circumstantially driven emotional reaction that is very much out of character. Nonetheless, I know my responsibilities and the examples that I must always set to my players and staff.
"In respect of the aforementioned provocation and coming-together, I’d like to offer my account of the circumstances around it. Swansea Player #17 Gonçalo Franco persisted in making targeted eye contact with me throughout the fixture which can be seen in the clips during the 67th and 76th minutes of the game.
"The same player overstepped the mark with several challenges during the match and I felt that he was waiting for an opportunity to try and provoke me into a reaction. When the player collided with me in the 92nd minute, the force and movement of his forearm can only be described as reckless behaviour and in my mind, violent conduct.
"There was no attempt by Franco to pull out of the collision. Following my sending off, Franco can be seen smirking and laughing as if the pre-meditated task had been completed successfully. I would ask that the circumstances and video evidence presented here are considered by way of mitigation.”

As a teenager I was in college with Geoff.
AKA "Gaffa" - AKA "The Ripper."
When we were in college, he was also on the books down the Vetch. Rugby's gain, was football's loss.
With Wales - Geoff won three Six Nations titles, including two Grand Slams, a hat-trick of Triple Crowns, and the record of 15 games unbeaten in a Welsh jersey.
