you would have 2 weekends without football the old way, (start of September & October), this new way is the same number of weekends you miss they are just doing it at the same time rather than 2 chunks.

Has the game gone?

The lack of dribblers and people who want to take players on, get you off your seat is a big part of the problem. It's all very robotic now.

Field...
at 13:07 3 Mar 2026

He did start the season with Field though who was pretty awful the first 4 games and then left out. I just think the manager didn't fancy him. He picked to start once in midfield after Coventry when we played Oxford and he was poor that night.

if Nourry wanted rid of field then he wouldn't have given him a new contract last summer and that new deal probably means we get some money for him this summer

I like Sam Field but I'm not sure I'm buying that we'd be playing any better if he had stayed. A combination of Madsen, Varane, Morgan and Hayden should be more than enough.

I actually think this is better, rather than stopping iN September then again in October you get 2 months for league football then a quick break then a long run to the next break.

They have also moved the League Cup 1st round to the Saturday before the season starts which again is a good move and better than more friendlies

A loan is part of their development but the ones who stay here seem to get worse rather than better.
I'm in a grumpy mood this week so am possibly just moaning for the sake of it

Stephan could have picked Field in the first half of the season if he wanted him to stay but he had him down as 4th/5th choice after the Coventry game.

When he didn't he created a situation where the player wanted to go and Nourry did the right thing by the player and let him go.

For me this one is on the manager

I think the idea of the needs a loan thing is that we sign players who have not played much mens football so to get a 17-19 year old players out on loan playing regular football and learning is their best chance of becoming good enough to play for us. Worked with Chair and Eze, less so with many others.

I also think with some of the loans you can probably tell they are not going to make it here either and save everyone some time.

I do think though that for a club that prides themself on being a development club we are really poor at actually developing players ourselves and need other clubs to do it for us and then gain the benefits. See Eze, Dieng and Chair.

A few of QPR fans who work at the club and have done a really good job have now gone or are in the process of leaving for a variety of reasons from Andy Evans, Paul Furlong, Simon Cheshire. It's quite sad to see

When the aim of the football club is to be a pathway club rather than somewhere to achieve your goals thats when standards drop through the floor some weeks as it doesn't matter if you win or lose really, you are not here to win promotion you are here to go somewhere else.

The only time in the last 10 years that the priority shifted to raise standards and win the match in front of you we managed to sell Eze for big money. He'd have gone the same way as Willock and Chair if it wasn't for those 3 years of Warbs.

Thats just how it looked to me, I may well be wrong, we couldn't work it out to be honest.
Whatever it was it didn't work

I think first half it was a back 3 then Vale went to left back second half and it was a back 4.
First half we seemed to switch a lot to 5 at the back without the ball and a back 4 with it

was saito starting on the left, I think he was meant to be a no 10 position with us playing a back 3.

VAR is about to get a lot worse

VAR is horrifric. Always looking for problems. That 4th Burnley goal yesterday, the Celtic penalty today, just throw it in the bin

I agree thats how it should work but plenty of examples from the last 10 years when that hasn't been the case.

I don't doubt the manager is picking the team and with the injuries he has very few options at the moment

Thats not what I meant but can see how it came across like that.
I'm not suggesting Nourry picks the team or anything like that. The club policy though it to push development players into the first team which is not a bad thing but same as under Ferdinand it doesn't work if those players are not ready or good enough.

I think he's been promoted up the pecking order far sooner than he should have been. Another one who would have benefitted more from regular football out on loan rather than thrown in every few weeks and taken off at half time.

It's not really controversial, Nourry has been quite clear thats what he wants to see happen with development players given a chance. Ferdinand was the same for the first few years.

There's nothing sinister in it but he wants these development players fast tracked to the first team, thats no secret but they are not good enough. It's the same with Bennie, Walsh and to a certain extent Morgan.

Was the same a first under Ferdinand, players were pushed forward when either not ready or not good enough just so they could say look how many development players have made the first team.

Sheffield United Reflection
at 13:24 1 Mar 2026

I just don't know what we were trying to do. We seemed to start with a back 3 with Saito and Bennie as number 10's but no one seemed to know where they were playing. Vale was so poor for the first goal just not tracking his man, massive gaps between the 3 centre halves and and the two midfield players. It was just rubbish. I'm not sure why Mbengue wasn't picked as the right wing back with Vale in the number 10.

Second half when we went back to 4-4-2 it was marginally better but I didn't really get Vale at left back, Sheffield United eased off so we came back into the game without ever really looking a threat.

Just poor from players and manager, basically back where we were a year ago. Promosing position wasted and now 2 months to get 4 points to ensure we stay up. Just depressing.
