Yes, when the manager has cited tiredness as being our enemy I'm very surprised that we didn't strengthen in midfield. East and Gilmour are probably more susceptible than other players when it comes to eventually running low on energy, they always put a big shift in and there is nobody to replace them. You're right about Conlon, he's quality. |

Oldham bullied us all over the pitch a few weeks ago and they'll try to do that again on Saturday. They'll try to stop us playing our pretty football. Everybody knew that we had to stop Fondop , we left him unmarked in front of the goal and gave him a free header. Rank bad defending and it cost us the game. We need to try to keep the ball as far away from our goal as possible on Saturday because Latics adopt the same tactic as Tamworth, they launch free kicks and throw ins into the box at every opportunity. We can out football them though and cause them problems if we play on the front foot rather than trying to manage the game and overplay in our own half of the pitch. [Post edited 12 Mar 19:44]

Good point about Rodney because when he's on his game he's talented, we only see it in fits and starts now though. Birds been a good signing but i think Barlow is just as influential since he came back into the team. He reminds me a little bit of Chris Dagnall with his low centre of gravity and the way he runs with the ball at pace. He's a great link up playing between the midfield and the central striker. Good point, yes we are finally seeing us win games at home. McNultys biggest achievement is the way he has organised us defensively. We have momentum now and we need to take the game to Oldham, if we do that i see us winning. It's about time the team turned up for a local derby and i include the manager in that. It's simple against Oldham, just stop Fondop. I think Hogan needs to keep his head also, we don't need any red cards. |

When you're throwing in displays like we did against Ebsfleet, Oldham and Barnet the criticism is deserved. Some of the displays would send a glass eye to sleep and the criticism is justified. I need to stop listening to McNultys interviews because even last night he was suggesting that the poor run of form we have been on has been down to us not putting the ball in the net but the performances have been decent. The fans aren't daft, some of the performances have been shocking at home, devoid of very little attacking threat. Four wins on the spin doesnt change what happened over the previous couple of months and the fans, even those in the Sandy Lane, had seen enough after the Barnet surrender. Full credit for the response since though, they've been great over the last four home games. [Post edited 12 Mar 8:15]

The implosion of the pitch has seen a upturn in performances and results at the COA. Less overplaying in our own half and a bit more route one and get the ball forward quicker? Our opponents seem to be more fatigued than we do. Criticism of performances and results was justified and we are in the results business. Since the turn of the year we had been in relegation form. Results over the last 10 days stopped the rot and the inclusion of Barlow and Bird in the team have given us a fresh dynamic in the final third. Can we just let the players attack at Oldham and not see them bogged down with tactical nonsense. If we see that then i think the penny will have finally dropped. We've been our own worst enemy in a lot of games this season and over complicated the game. The Ogdens have provided Jim with the tools to claim a play off spot, let's stop looking for excuses to fail (tiredness, pitch, budgets) and let our opponents do the worrying. The squad is relatively fit and healthy and it's a good squad compared to a lot of clubs in this league. McNulty and his style of play divides opinion but the facts are that he is only two wins away from being the first manager in our history to win a meaningful trophy at Wembley. Not even Keith Hill did that. [Post edited 12 Mar 7:49]

Agree with that. We saw the opposite of tiredness yesterday and it's great that McNulty is utilising his squad, i know it's been forced on him in respect of recent injuries but all of a sudden there seems to be a freshness about us. Great things can be achieved over the next couple of months, the squad in effect had a mid winter break so maybe it's the opposition who are succumbing to tiredness now, especially those with smaller squads and part time footballers such as Weadstone. My (our) last experience of pre-match hospitality earlier in the season was pretty poor. I won't regurgitate the reasons why but it did need flagging up at the time. We again booked into hospitality today and the difference was chalk and cheese, it was really good value for money and a excellent afternoon. The tables were properly dressed and created a good first impression. The carvery meal was one of the best I've tasted, very well cooked and hot, everybody on our table thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Great staff also and that includes those behind the bar. We look forward to our next booking on Easter Monday. I also had a chat with the Co- Chairman Simon Gauge and we managed to move on from what has been a very stressful last few years, one that has cost him far more money than me to be fair. We also won 4-1 so it's been a good day. |

Not sure what Tobis personality has to do with McNulty, he would have had the same personality before he came to the club. Criticism of McNulty clearly irks you but prior to Tuesday we have won one league game this year and picked up 7 points from a possible 24..that's relegation form in anybodies book. To just ignore that run of form and not ask questions of the manager wouldnt be right. Of course we've had some wins in the Trophy games but at the moment we will do really well to secure a play off spot. League results since the turn of the year have been poor and even McNulty would do well to flower that fact up. We've had two good wins this week let's continue that and treat the game at Oldham next Saturday as a game that really means something for a change. [Post edited 8 Mar 8:58]

I think Hogan is proving to be a good signing, a no nonsense defender who is strong and wins most of his headers. He also brings loads of experience to the backline which we have missed since EEL picked up his injury. We've beat two top teams over the last few days and not conceded, that should give everybody plenty of confidence after a recent run of poor results in the league. |

Agree regarding Kingdon, he was solid throughout and hardly put a foot wrong. Gateshead neat and tidy but created very little. We deserved the win in the end for our perseverance in what was a classic case of two teams cancelling each other out. |

It's a funny old game. We've never won a meaningful trophy in the clubs history, the Ogdens could achieve it in their first season. |

He'll score twenty goals this season, you don't give goalscorers away. |

Yes, all fair points those. It does beg the question though ,why has it taken until the last third of the season for McNulty to bring a alternative like Bird into the club? We've been crying out for a physical presence up front all season, somebody who can hold the ball up and bring others into play. Two forwards who can play off each other. You need it in this league, Fondop is a great example at Oldham. [Post edited 3 Mar 15:09]

Some good points in all of that but I dont buy into the Sassi/ Hogan example. Sassi was a liability who played a defence splitting forward ball which led to a Mitchell goal, he wasnt notable for his passing ability and Hogan is by far a better defender. If We're relying on a centre half to set up chances for the forwards then the finger needs pointing at the manager. Secondly, i don't think McNultys lack of tactical nouse and flexibility has been highlighted enough. There have been many games when we have created next to no chances throughout the duration and passed up a gilt edged opportunity to put the ball into the penalty area in preference to recycling the ball backwards. Eventually any striker loses the will to gamble in and round the penalty area, i think we see that with Mitchell. Then there is also Devante Rodney who seems to just meander through games, he's the conundrum not Mitchell. To my mind Mitchell is often left alone up front with Rodney out near the wing, he's fighting a loan battle. So i think it's the way the team is set up to play and the adverse risk to losing posession that is the conundrum and not Mitchell. Give him the chances and he'll score goals, he's proved that. |

Agree, there's always a reason for why we can't compete or achieve. A excuse for not being able to do something. Both on and off the pitch...even banging a drum. Why all of a sudden are our players anymore knackered than players from clubs we are competing against? We have a very competitive squad and for all my misgivings about Simon Gauge I'm pretty sure he's made sure that McNulty has been backed. There is still over two months of the season left to play, more if we win our next trophy game..if the players are collapsing and tired now then God help us for the remainder of the season. Not many managers would give the players a ready made excuses to under perform but that's what McNulty does in his interview, he doesnt think they should be criticised for it. We're a professional football club and we live or die on football results, that should always be the priority for everybody, especially the manager. [Post edited 2 Mar 11:51]
