Saints' inability to defend crosses
at 08:59 15 Jan 2026

This also deals with the issue of getting rid of 3 of the bad eggs.

Harwood-Bellis, Stephens and Manning.

Getting rid of Flynn Downes would be a bonus.

Saints' inability to defend crosses

That was me saying "a whole new defence in the next two weeks"; not him.

I thought it was a really good article, cuts to the heart of everything that is wrong with the team.

I previously thought a new striker was what we really needed, but it isn't.

It's a whole new defence, so that we can then play with a solid back 4, and then control more of the game in midfield.

Then the goals will come.

Alfie House at the Echo

He must surely be heading for pastures new.

He has been highly critical in the last few weeks, and his tweet on X last week about the culture at the club was hugely damning.

Amazed that the Club haven't taken some form of sanction against him, as he is openly exposing the wounds which are rotting away at the Club.

Feels to me that he is having a bit of fun before he moves into a role somewhere else.

Saints' inability to defend crosses

Good article in today's Echo.

This is our season in a nutshell.

Full-backs who can't defend, or stop crosses coming in.

Centre-halves who don't communicate or lead, and don't get the crosses away.

Utterly hapless goalkeeping.

If we don't get a whole new defence and a striker in the next 2 weeks, you can write the season off.

Though I suspect the club already have written it off.

That year was an invalid year.

A team cheated their way to win it that year.

Eckert always says this as a standard response as it's the easiest way for him to deal with the question.

Spors is of course Lord Lucan at the moment while we are not winning games.

Hull are not a team we appear to beat very often.

It's horrendous.

The overwhelming majority of people:-

- only sing when we score, then they go back to their phones
- only sing the Scouser song or OWTS, then they go back to their phones
- watch little of the game

It honestly baffles me as to why they go, other than for a day out and an Insta pic.

In terms of the demographic, I would say most of these are between 20 and 35.

I watched a bit of the Skates v Arsenal game on TNT on Sunday, and it pains me to say that their fans were loud and put us to shame.

Our away support is a bit better but not much.

I am dreading Fratton for many reasons, not least of which is the noise their lot will make which we won't even try to compete with.

I suspect most of their demographic is the same as ours, they just don't piss about on their phones like our lot do.

Were Southport's 14 fans louder than the Northam?

Fair chance, I'd say.

He was part of two successive promotions, but he played behind a far better defence.

I’d even put Dan Seaborne above our current rabble of CB’s.

Armando Broja scored more goals for us than Sekou Mara in rather less time.

How is Sekou doing in France? Loaned out again, I'm led to believe.

He isn't worth £8 million.

Not a chance in hell Stoke will pay that for him in the summer.

He will return to us, probably be loaned out again next season, and he will end up leaving on a free transfer in June 2027.

Are you saying that we currently have the same level of ambition as we did in the most successful spell in our history???

I would have to bow to your increased knowledge of the situation in the early 80's, but didn't Keegan more or less demand to leave, and did he ever play in the top flight again after he left us??

I think Kelvin Davis was worse as well.

His loyalty to the club in the darkest days got him a lot of credit in the bank, so to speak.

When Sport Republic sign a European Footballer of the Year, I will agree with you.

When you say that you didn't feel that Dom Ballard was as good as the other options we had at the time....

Were you including Super Sekou?

Ballard scored at Cambridge in a game which I think Mara played in.

I believe he may be returning from his dazzling loan spell with Red Star in Ligue 2, where he has made an almighty 6 appearances.

That cash would have been rather useful for a striker now.

Unbelievable that we have sold Edwards for pretty much the same amount that we paid for this "investment".

Do we have fitness problem
at 15:40 12 Jan 2026

Some won't want to hear it, but it goes back to Brent.

He never focused on fitness, and the legacy lives on.

There is a core of senior players loyal to Brent, who Alfie House strongly alluded to last week, and they are a disease rotting away at the club.

Until they are out of the club, this problem will continue.

Stephens, Downes, Harwood-Bellis and Manning.

All of them need kicking out of the club.

Gavin Bazunu Tipped For Move From Southampton To Stoke City
at 10:44 12 Jan 2026

Aaron Ramsdale saved 3 penalties on Saturday for Newcastle.

There is zero chance of him returning here.

There is also zero chance of Stoke signing Bazunu for £8 million in the summer. Once Johansson is fit again, Bazunu will be back on the bench.

Bazunu's contracts expires at the end of next season, when he will leave on a free transfer.

Another expensive mistake by Joe Shields.
