The 3 sides of a match thread at Oxford
at 22:50 20 Jan 2026

It was very poor.

Can see very little positives from that.

Was in the Oxford end with a colleague and it was just a desperately poor quality match.
Conditions didn't help, but we lacked any quality so didn't deserve anything.

Would like to see us at least try something different. Two banks of 4 and letting them have the ball isn't it

There were none.

Well, my chicken curry pie and Bovril were good in the Oxford end. Me absolutely underestimating how cold it would be was not great.

Terrible game of football.

We were very poor.

Team for Oxford?

Going deep undercover tonight behind enemy lines.

Sitting in the family stand with a colleague who has an Oxford season ticket.

Just hope it's not as boring as at the weekend.

Realistically, we need to be getting him out on loan somewhere where he does okay, and then selling him on.

He's not good enough at this level unfortunately.

And if we want to operate this buy low, or develop, then sell model we have to keep doing that

Didn't press enter on this earlier.

I thought Kone was decent and he absolutely ran his blood to water, which to me speaks volumes about his desire to improve.

Don't forget he was up against 80 million plus of central defenders, and that's if I don't count Mavropanos who went off.

Pleased with what I've heard from people who know more that I'm well wide of the mark on Kolli not being liked due to attitude.
Makes it seem even weirder that he hasn't played more...

Yeah, I really liked that.

Which is why the body language from others seemed worthy of mentioning. Because it jars a bit with that, and I'm also finding it weird he hasn't played more.

Okay, that's good to know. I think he works hard and his manner doesn't seem to be arrogant or anything like that.
I don't have the inside track, so that is good to hear.
His team mates do just seen more annoyed with him than I've seen in many other interactions.
Morgan was definitely happy when he scored last week, and their celebration seemed very genuine.

Not sure who you know who is, though.

I think Kolli has potential, and better decision making would help and hopefully come with more experience.

Unsure if it's just me, but looking at the body language of people he plays with, they really don't seem to like him.

Just on the really dull topic of amortisation, does anyone know if there's a cap on how long you can amortise players fees?
I think they capped it at 5 years in the Premier League after Chelsea's antics?

Assume we are signing players on 5 year deals then

January transfer rumours

Didn't know Cracknell was an R?

Varane's on the phone and he wants to go home

I'd let him for 5mil plus add ons.

Then we move on to getting one or two more people in who can pass the ball forward without losing their minds

Okay, but I thought it was more along the lines of:
Buy someone for 5 mil on 5 year contract.
Each year reduce the asset value by 1.

So, if you sold in final year of contract for 2.5 you book a 1.5 profit to that year's P&L?

Actually that's what you said.
I'm tired.

As far as I know Richards was very little up front ~450k with a number of add ons?

But, yes, a big sale does need to happen.
Someone needs to start attaching one of those electric collars to Varane and triggering it every time he fails to pass forwards.

This is a very good post.

I really try hard not to care about amortisation, but could we sell a number of players as long as they add up to ~6 mil, or it depends on who because of profit Vs asset cost.

I'm trying not to go overboard.

Someone compare him to Steven Caulker for me

West Ham tickets
at 23:45 4 Jan 2026

If anyone can't make it, was supposed to get my little brother and my brother in law a ticket, but I was in Japan at the time and couldn't do it, and my usual crew all assumed it would be on sale for a while so didn't bother...

The lad has a knack of getting goals.

I don't know why he hasn't played more, but it seems to be an ongoing thing under two managers now, one of whom clearly was not entirely following the clubs/players wishes given the response to him from players when he returned, so perhaps it's not the club being off, but the kid as well?

I don't know either way.

Just look forward to him getting more minutes and hopefully staying fit. It seems like he's been out of training for the past month.

Really liked the second celebration, can see a genuine connection between him and Morgan.

Looks like Kolli has also filled out a lot?

FA Cup Draw Monday Evening
at 21:55 8 Dec 2025

Nice new team to get eased out of the cup to.
Always good to watch a mid ranking premier League defender absolutely dominate our hapless strikers.
Or have a top level one come on to really show how big a gap there is ( Vidic ages back coming on vs Dexter Black stock, was like dads Vs kids match, Guehi a year or two ago similar vibes)
but this year I'm interested to see Burrell and Kone ruffle a few feathers.

My boss supports Wham and has already been messaging me about it.

Think I'll try and go to this, but not holding out hopes I'll have enough loyalty points.

That Mbengue tackle
at 10:18 21 Sep 2025

I mean, it was a pretty nailed on red card I thought at the time, and even more so having seen the replay.

Doesn't matter if you get the ball and follow through like he did, completely off the ground and planting studs on the guy.

But, Ben Pearson?
Drop ball and gate.

Pearson then gets so wound up he immediately gives away a yellow. Good stuff.

Ref was a lottery. Very inconsistent I thought.

Good bit where Kone committed some violence against some guy, the ref saw it and waved play on, then a few seconds later they lost the ball and Kone seemingly doesn't even get a talking to. Enjoyed it.

Erm, still heavily advertising this company during today's matches.

We have contracted advertising with them that they have to pay for or something?
