Swans latest transfer news for two players linked to the club. Darling latest
Monday, 6th Jan 2025 17:29 by Liam Walters & Keith Haynes

The Swans are of course being linked to some players, even by highly regarded agents. We have spent some time talking to our sources who have been very helpful in the past around January transfer window time.

The first name which has been mentioned is -

Connor Roberts : Left the Swans for Burnley in August 2021 signing a four year contract which concludes this summer. He has made reference to wanting to return to Swansea ‘at some point’ He is though very much a part of the Burnley first team so they are highly unlikely to consider a loan move in January. Plus the Swans can’t pay his weekly wage which is believed twice as much as the best paid Swansea players. If not more.

He has ninety eight league appearances for the Clarets scoring six goals, before his move he played 133 times for the Swans (152 total) scoring eleven times. And we have to factor in a pretty decent loan spell at Leeds United last season. At twenty nine it is understood his future at Burnley will rely on promotion back to the Premier League but no significant contract offer has been made as yet.

Before he left Swansea, then manager Russell Martin stated that Roberts had been offered a more significant contract to stay at Swansea but he decided to move on. Born in Neath and a lifetime Swansea fan he has also gained sixty Wales full international caps. The general feeling is a January loan move is pretty much not on the cards. With Burnley (or another club in the Championship) having the financial means to interest him, even in the summer, this could be a wish more than a fact for Connor.

Our contacts close to Omni Sports who represent Connor have stated there’s been no discussions so don’t get too excited. Mind you who knows what agents are up to eh ? However, our many readers will know predicting the future as it stands with so much money slushing around, and in Connor's case a real affection for the Swans it could change. We don’t believe so, unless a transfer deal is agreed with Burnley, a loan to buy with an agreed price in the summer there’s no legs as it stands.

But let’s tug on his heart strings and let Chairman, Andrew Coleman know, in fact for them to pull something off this January with Connor in the same situation as Harry Darling would be exceptional. Connor will leave for free in the summer. As current head coach, Luke Williams has stated, "I don't think we want to panic and try to bring somebody in just because we feel like we have to. We need to try and raise the bar all the time and see if we can make this group as strong as possible."

The two pretty much done deals are still to be announced by the club, another Williams quote some eight days ago. That’s the issue at this moment in time, it confuses people and leads to all sorts of speculation.

Next in the suggestion list is Abdulmalik Al-Jaber, he plays for FK Zeljeznicar Sarajevo and has eighteen months left on his current contract. PSV in Holland are the strongest link to the player, and the fee for Al-Jaber has gone from speculative numbers of £500k to four million. The only thing going in a Premier League or EFL clubs favour is the springboard to the Premier League or the fact a few Premier League clubs are interested.

If the Swans get this player it will be one hell of a scoop.

Final word comes with an update regards Harry Darling. We have been told directly that Birmingham City are still a club who admire him. However, things are moving fast and the Blues are going to announce centre back Phil Nuemann very shortly. He is a very good centre back who plays for Hannover 96. Central defenders at Birmingham, Christoph Klarer and Krystian Bielik could leave if rumours are correct, that would mean the Blues would increase their Darling interest. But as it stands, there’s not a lot in it today.

That’s about it, we all know about Joe Low, so more later. Thanks for your support as ever.
