Swansea City want two more players in this week if at all possible, and they are not just relying upon Tyrese Campbell or indeed the latest rumour on Huddersfield Town keeper, Lee Nicholls. And it could be there’s at least one more to leave.

Swans head coach, Luke Williams hasn’t been shy in saying he wants more in and there are positions to fill. Speaking after yesterdays game he said, “If you look at the units on the pitch, from goalkeeper to defensive unit, midfield unit, wide positions, striker, there’s some recruitment to be done in all those areas and we are in negotiation to some extent with players in all those departments”

As always there is a caveat. “But getting the deals done is a lengthy procedure and there’s a lot to it. But it's positive that we’ve identified a number of players that are ideal for us and achievable for us and that will continue” One of those is now most certainly Tyrese Campbell, and despite speculation he hasn’t made his mind up today on what he wants or where he believes is the best club for him. Most certainly the Swans are in what looks like a three way tug for the player. Tyrese knows what the club can offer him after talks ended on Friday with potentially more to come, and Luke in his usual style hasn’t left those discussions without ensuring his plans and exact details aren’t known by Tyrese.

That’s been a huge factor in players coming in this summer.

Speculation has started again on Lee Nicholls, and that shouldn’t be disregarded with us learning today that Andrew Fisher is of interest elsewhere after two seasons mostly as a number two. That needs firming up, but his opportunities are looking as equally limited this time around. Some will say that ‘yes’ he was slightly injured in pre season in Austria, and that indicates the head coach was preserving him due to a potential move. But the intricacies of transfer matters Luke knows only too well.

Put yourself in Fisher’s shoes. He knows he will be number two for the coming season, he’s hardly likely to find a club who will compete with his current salary, so maybe a loan would be preferential ? Especially if the Swans are looking for another keeper to either come in as a number one or back up Larry Vigouroux.

News on the Swedish forward, twenty two year old, Noel Milleskog, rumoured earlier last week is extremely difficult to source, despite our best efforts. Knowing that he is rumoured is one thing, finding context and information to add to the news is proving difficult. So, what does that tell us ? We believe it’s either that the Swans have protected themselves with these approaches as they did with Žan Vipotnik, or there’s nothing in it and any discussions or interest have fallen down. Milleskog will cost money but don’t you get the feeling when certain players are mentioned that it just feels right ?

The Swans haven’t recruited any players from the loan market so far, despite links to the loan and pathways manager at Chelsea, ex Swansea recruiter Josh Marsh. Sporting Director, Paul Watson has a very good relationship with Josh, however, despite rumours nothing seems to be happening. We will add our own caveat here, if a player is to come in on loan we think it ‘could’ be from Chelsea. That’s not to say others aren’t out there, but we have covered this in a previous report.

A variety of trialists have been featuring in the Under 21 preparation games this summer. We saw one yesterday, Ruben Providence, a free agent who has impressed already at Oxford United. He has played for the U21 side, and impressed so much he had twenty minutes or so to showcase his skills against Rio Ave. In fact that was the deal for all trialists, but Ruben stood out. Williams was very positive, "We had the opportunity for him to train and be involved in this game, we barely had a chance to look at him properly, but now we’ve seen him in a good game and he showed some real quality which we expected as a high level player. Some really good physicality and good quality with the ball as well. We have a chance to spend a bit of more time with him and see what the outcome is there." Providence hasn’t done himself any harm at all, and on yesterday’s showing he could be a new signing, however there’s a lot more to it than having a good cameo in a Swans shirt.

Kevin Hanratty, who was at Aberdeen, and now twenty one didn’t make that particular U21 cut.
