We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe.

We have reported on Jamal’s situation at Swansea, and now with one game to go before the season ends certain Swans fans will turn to the summer and what will lay ahead. In Jamal’s case, head coach, Luke Williams has stated Lowe’s salary is too high. However, we reported last weekend that it isn’t as high as some think, and questioned the salary figure.

Of course there must have been some form of contact, but what Jamal is referring to is a sit down face to face meeting to discuss if he has a future at Swansea. His agent is in receipt of offers from numerous clubs, and they will be more lucrative than the Swans can offer, but that isn’t the whole story. Jamal is thirty in two months, his late arrival into the game will have him some extra longevity as an athletic and pretty quick footballer. His goalscoring stats are decent, but Luke Williams has only really seen Jamal as a substitute recently. A huge impact player over the past month for sure. And that doesn’t fill us with confidence a deal can be brokered.

With Joe Allen, Liam Walsh, Placheta and Kyle Naughton all injured and looking for new deals at Swansea there can’t be any heart ruling the head moments this summer. Their injury records and age will surely mean possibly all four won’t get contracts if balancing the books is a number one priority ? Walsh and Allen are conundrums, the latter knows what is available to him to remain at Swansea, the former most certainly doesn’t know.

A club insider has mentioned in the week that Luke Williams has to do some juggling and review his whole squad if he wants Notts County’s Macaulay Langstaff in his squad for next season. The likes of Jerry Yates and Mykola Kukharevych have been pretty much a let down or in Mykola’s case ‘let down’ Really these players should be offloaded now, take the hit for the better good. Liam Cullen has been retained for another year. That would leave some finances for Langstaff who has scored sixty nine goals in eighty nine league appearances. His Magpie’s contract now runs until 2027 and despite Luke Williams being desperate to sign him, that signature will cost money. Money to sign Langstaff will more than likely come from those players who don’t receive a contract in the coming weeks, or who leave. This free’s up cash as they are no longer are on the payroll. There most certainly isn’t a free flow of cash, and as we have visited this week the sustainability rules have to be well respected.

The latest is that the Swans share Williams desire to capture Langstaff who at twenty seven can’t really wait another season to make the big step up. We expect this to happen, but not without the usual drawn out negotiations so reflective of the majority ownership’s legacy to date. It’s hard to believe we are now looking ahead to next season after this one has seen such highs and lows. Excuse the pun.
