Swansea City - even with the amount of recruits coming in this summer can only sustain so many injuries and players on the treatment table for so long. That was evident last night as they fell to their second successive home defeat in a matter of days.

This time around we saw Josh Key and Ben Cabango out with Josh Tymon on the bench after an injury sustained on Saturday against Leicester City. Already Joe Allen, Josh Ginnelly, Alzeem Abdulai and Nathan Wood are out until the end of December at least, that’s seven players not playing or in Tymon’s case clearly not at one hundred percent.

And now Mykola Kukharevych joins the list of injured with an ‘aggravated’ knee injury.

With Liam Walsh only just back from another lengthy lay off the Swans are now selecting players from the remaining players available in the squad, and the constant injuries and changing starting eleven isn’t faring well at this moment in time. The width the side is still screaming out for isn’t there, the pace relatively unaddressed - we have a long list of absentee’s and players getting back in to the weekly routine of matches and training. We can only hope that Liam Walsh can buck his career trend of injuries and that Charlie Patino, who didn’t see any action last night can return on Saturday revitalised and ready to contribute.

Sam Parker (below) fresh the under twenty one triumph of Monday night found himself unexpectedly on the bench last night as an unused substitute as well. That’s good for him, but having to reach in to the age grade squad isn’t good news all round. As it stands there seems to be no real stand out players in the under twenty one set up that can easily transition in to the first team. And there’s a good eight to nine weeks before players can come in to the club via the January transfer window.

It is a concern, we haven’t seen this many injuries to a Swansea squad in a very long time, if at all. It isn’t now just about players who are out for a while, it’s also about players who are not fully fit starting on the bench. This is a totally unsatisfactory position to be in, and as we have seen in the last two home matches it affects performance, and as a result we see dropped points. It seems we either have a squad of fragile players or there’s other areas of the working day, be that in training or otherwise that needs to be addressed.

As we said at the start of this report you can only sustain this run of injuries for so long, it’s impractical to think you can just ‘hope’ the bad luck stops. Something isn’t right, and whatever it is needs identifying quickly as the Swans are now selecting from those players ‘left’ not those players ‘best’ for their starting eleven.

Again Swansea City are looking towards the bottom of the table as opposed to towards the play offs, and that’s disappointing all round. The Swans travel to Blackburn at the end of the week for an away game at Ewood Park. We can only hope things look a bit brighter come Saturday, but no matter the circumstances we will still have players returning from injury ( Ben Cabango at least ) and possibly Liam Walsh available for a start, but the overall picture is bleak.

And it’s affecting the performance on the pitch.
