Michael Duff has a few dilemmas ahead of him
Monday, 23rd Oct 2023 08:00 by Swansea Independent

Swansea City take on Watford tomorrow night at the Swansea.Com Stadium with the loss to Leicester City still ringing in their ears. Michael Duff may feel it’s time to rest at least one player in his squad. Charlie Patino or Jerry Yates perhaps ?

Harrison Ashby is most certainly keen to get a start, but really the temperament and form of Josh Key surely means if he is fit he has to play. In fact he really should be one of the first names on Duff’s team sheet, His acquisition has been a master stroke despite the fee and its anomalies still not being agreed.

Conversations surrounding playing Ashby further forwards on the right aren’t to be entirely ruled out. In fact with Key in his way he has little chance of shifting him, you would think so anyway. So, with the left side wrapped up there needs to be some consistency in any selection as well. Josh Tymon for the minute seems to have the left back birth sorted out, but he does have Kristian Pedersen breathing down his neck. Pedersen did get minutes on Saturday but the second half substitutions did baffle some supporters at the game.

Could we see Pedersen drafted in at left back ?

They are the basic options for Duff, Matt Grimes is a definite on any Swans team sheet, Jamal Lowe as well. Harry Darling has been on form as has Bashir Humphreys, you just can’t see Duff messing around with those positions.

The main issue regards Ashby of course is pressure from Newcastle United. We wouldn’t have thought that there has been, however it hasn’t gone unnoticed up north of his lack of game time at present. However, as we have covered before loans aren’t just about the game time. But a player like Harrison will be wanting game time, regardless of the bigger picture, and regardless of the additional learning loan players get away from their parent club.

More on tomorrow nights game to come on the Indy.
