Swansea City : Duff needs to get back on track Sunday, 22nd Oct 2023 08:30 by Keith Haynes Swansea City take on Watford on Tuesday night at the Swansea.Com Stadium with a 7.45pm kick off. After Saturdays defeat at the hands of Leicester City, head coach Michael Duff will be determined to set the record straight. Swans fans will be expecting a continuation of their good form despite the 3-1 loss to Leicester City on Saturday. Watford are the visitors and they currently sit in nineteenth place in the Championship standings on thirteen points - two places below the Swans who are on fifteen. The Championship is so congested, a few wins and the whole outlook of the season can change. The Swans can look above and see sixth place Sunderland just four points ahead. They will be the visitors to west Wales in a few weeks time. Watford have had a stop start season, they beat Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 on Saturday with a late Asprilla goal, and will most certainly hope that kick starts their campaign. Manager, Valérien Ismaël has recently been awarded a new contract at Vicarage Road which in itself is a surprise as this is around the time of the season owner Gino Pozzo wields the hatchet on his managers. The Hornets have won just one game in the last six with two draws and three losses. On the road last time out they earned a credible draw at Cardiff City, before that they were defeated 2-0 at Sunderland. Defender Ryan Andrews is available again after his dismissal at Sunderland. Colombian Asprilla was delighted with his goal which gave his side a much needed three points. “It’s been a good afternoon. We’re happy to win - we deserved to win - it was not an easy game to get through on top, but at the end of the day we did enough and we go away with the three points. I’m very happy to have scored the goal, especially because my family was here watching in the stands. It was great to get my second goal for the club - and the first of this season - and hopefully there are many more to come” Swans head coach Michael Duff was pleased with the performance against the Foxes commenting after the game. “We knew we would have to suffer in moments because they keep the ball so well, but we showed good organisation and the spirit was brilliant. We also showed some really good quality at times and there were plenty of positives to take from the performance and the atmosphere. The togetherness being shown is great, and it’s about staying in control emotionally now and making sure we keep improving and putting together this run of performances, because if you keep producing performances results will take care of themselves." Only Norwich City have scored more goals than the Swans outside of the top six (22) The season is now over a quarter of the way through and this will be the Swans thirteenth game of the season. There has been a lot of promise from the games played leading up to the international break but if they are to make an impression this season then games such as this one have to be won. You can watch the game on the Sky Sports Red Button along with all the Championship fixtures on the night. Details are below. Another game under the lights at the Swansea.Com is always an occasion and we expect there is potential here for a change or two by Duff. Although he will have to think long and hard as his unchanged side over the last few games have served him well.
