Swans Chairman lays out his vision, but it’s what happens on the pitch that counts Thursday, 19th Oct 2023 11:50 by Keith Haynes Swansea City Chairman Andrew Coleman has opened up to the supporters of the club on his vision for the foreseeable future. Having moved to the city, literally lock, stock and barrel he spoke at last nights fans forum in Swansea. Like us, please draw your own conclusions. We have heard before of his commitment to the Swans, that for us isn’t in any doubt. What his remuneration is for such a move hasn’t been disclosed as yet, but it won’t be an average package. Life of course is all about challenges and new experiences, and the amiable Coleman seems extremely keen to take this latest endeavour on in a determined fashion. It was a smooth delivery, especially from Coleman and Sporting Director Paul Watson. More on him later today. Andy Coleman says all the right words, and it’s almost defensively at times, the thing he needs to understand is nobody is criticising him, and the ship seems very steady at this moment in time. "The commitment I think you should want to hear from me is that I am here, I am doing this beyond full time, this is my club, this is my community and we are going to succeed here or I am going to go down trying” The explanations regards who is who at the club and how they impact on the day to day running was reinforced. "I along with Jason and Steve are the controlling partners and managing members of what is the largest shareholder in the club. I am the operating partner and controlling member of that group. We have intentionally structured our ownership so that the decision-maker, the controlling operating partner, is here making decisions, without having to go back to daddy for permission in America” That of course has been mentioned, and previous incumbents of the Chairman role have had to do exactly that. Get confirmation from Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan, no matter what was said at the time. That was a fact. The hard work generated by the staff to get the club in to a good position for a play off push was scuppered by the pair in January. They just were not going to allow any purchases at that time. Today the sales and incomings are basically at evens from the summers dealings. Okay, there’s running costs, and they are huge, we are not as ill advised to beleive this is the sole running of the enterprise. Coleman elaborated. "The most important takeaway is to understand that I'm here, I'm making decisions and I'm the controlling partner of the ownership group." That may as well be, however coupled with this statement. "We have had a lot of new investment in the club, myself included, Brett Cravatt, Nigel Morris and others. These are set up in LLCs (limited liability companies) as you will see in any common ownership structure amongst groups” The LLC question has been raised before, mits almost as if a little ferret burrows its way around the club holding bits of paper printed off from the internet and placing them on relevant desks in a ‘Look sir, yes sir, this is what they are saying sir’ In fact we know this to be true. That’s overall not a bad thing, but this can be seen as divisive, splitting the fan base and it’s supporting websites such as this and Planet Swans with an overall personal agenda at play. Until we see tangible evidence of an acceptance at all levels within the club as to what happens outside of it we remain unconvinced. Our attempts to improve this are on record. On the field of play Michael Duff was keen to stress things have progressed well despite some ups and downs. Steve Carroll from SOS Fanzine ( available this match day tweeted : “ Question on form, Duff said reaction since Cardiff has been good. There’s been a lot of turnover at club, players creatures of habit. He has different ideas, needed wing backs and wingers. We’re seeing real character of group in recent weeks. Wants to improve players. Togetherness has impressed him. Players like to blame other issues, but they’ve stepped up. No one turned on each other or cliques, players have been consistent and pleasure to work with“ The real big questions are answered on the pitch, more informed fans know that a multitude of sins within any club structure can become lost when the results are good and the team is playing at its optimum level. That first real test comes this Saturday when the Swans take on Leicester City at the Swansea.Com Stadium, kick off 3pm. Read our match day build up here —> The battle of the top two on form The main news of the night came from host Kev Johns. He divulged he has been given the all clear on his cancer diagnosis. And really when you review everything that is going on, be that at a sporting level or elsewhere, that is fantastic news. Nice one Kev.
