Bashir nails it for the Swans : Comment, highlights, interview & pics

Bashir Humphreys scored the Swans winner late on last night at the Swansea.Com Stadium. The Chelsea loanee regained his place in the side at left back to answer some of the criticism he has received at times this season. That isn’t his preferred position but an injury to Ben Cabango meant he moved across to centre back and from that moment onwards he looked very much a class act.

Some quarters gave him the man of the match award, however, there really wasn’t a bad performance ( overall ) for any player in a Swans shirt. Once Liam Cullen was substituted along with Charlie Patino the Swans displayed just what having strength in-depth is all about.

Bashir, complete with that very odd Clinton Morrison dialect summed up his feelings post match. "The ball was bouncing around, Jamal Lowe was telling me afterwards that he had two slices at it, but then it's just landed at my feet and my eyes lit up. I just through, 'I'm smashing this! It was an unbelievable feeling to get the goal, and obviously to get the win and keep the momentum going that’s even better – that’s the best part of it. I think momentum is so important in football, especially in the Championship, you can go on a good run and you go up the table quickly”

Ollie Cooper with a point to prove having been omitted from Rob Page’s Wales squad was industrious and direct. Jamie Paterson who has found a new lease of life under Michael Duff linked play with Jerry Yates and Jamal Lowe. Harry Darling displayed at times an armoury of passing. Not always coming off but on occasion his passing was defence splitting.

The threat of Jonathon Rowe, the Norwich youth product was evident throughout, he was very much involved in Norwich City’s equaliser, but overall Josh Key managed to keep him as quiet as possible until Rowe was taken off. It has to be said the Swans are looking far more solid at the back this season, Duff, being an ex defender surely noticing some of the profound errors his side were making when he took over. Carl Rushworth too, he is far more organised and confident between the sticks. And that counts for a lot.

The Swans will wait upon the injury diagnosis on Ben Cabango today, with Plymouth away on Saturday looming more injuries is the last thing Duff needs with his already much depleted squad. If things do get even more drastic come Saturday at least Duff knows that Bashir can step in alongside a much improved Harry Darling. The other issue is Josh Tymon, he came in at left back after Cabango went off injured and as per Bashir he did find himself exposed as the Swans pushed forwards in search of the winner.
