Watch out - another Humphreys is about Monday, 21st Aug 2023 08:16 by Keith Haynes Twenty four year old Cameron Humphreys has been the subject of an inquiry by Swansea City over the past week once again. The 6’1” centre back signed on at Rotherham United from SV Zulte Waregem in a free transfer deal last summer. He has two years left to run on his current contract. Humphreys is most certainly another Paul Watson inquiry (Swans Sporting Director) and within his general remit for the type of player he likes to go for. The centre back is twenty five this month and has only played around a hundred top flight games, however he excelled for Rotherham last season completing thirty eight matches. His career started at Manchester City but he played no first team games bar a substitute appearance against Aston Villa in the FA Cup. His career moved on to SV Zulte Waregem in 2019 where he completed fifty five games in the Belgian first division. A loan spell at Excelsior Rotterdam wasn’t that successful hence his contract running down at SV. Rotherham United saw something in him and secured his services on a three year contract fourteen months ago. Humphreys was so well thought of as a youngster he made his England debut for the under seventeen side at just fourteen. At the end of last season he just missed out on the player of the season award at Rotherham United which went to Viktor Johansson. It was only a hamstring injury which prevented him playing the Millers full quota of league games last season. A fans favourite Humphreys will most certainly come with a fee attached, more on this as it develops. So far this season Cameron has started all three of Rotherham’s league games plus one in the league cup.
