Is There An England Spot For Swans Duo?

Roy Hodgson was due today to name his England squad for next month's double header against San Marino and Switzerland that could confirm their qualification for Euro 2016 but will there be a place for the Swans duo?

Jonjo Shelvey and Jack Cork have started the season in blistering style and are rightly both being touted as possible England players in this important season for all international players.

If ever you are going to hit form and get into your national squad it has to be in the season that leads up to a major tournament finals and both Cork and Shelvey have strong claims to be named in the squad which was originally scheduled for lunchtime today.

Shelvey is arguably closer to the squad than Cork and it would be, I think, impossible to overlook him at this point in time given the form that he is showing at the front end of this season. Shelvey is one of the most creative English midfielders around and if Roy Hodgson wants to create chances then this is one man that he needs in his team. He has created 13 chances in the Premier League this season which is more than anyone else and that in itself should justify a call up.

Jack Cork is probably further down the queue for a place in the squad but his form since he joined the Swans from Southampton should certainly not discount him. He is a pivotal part of the Swans midfield and whilst the formation England use may be slightly different he is a good enough midfielder to slot into the side as well as anyone else who is being mentioned as a possibility.

Hodgson was originally due to name his squad today but delayed it because of injuries to what was described as "key midfielders"

"After meeting with my coaching staff today we have decided to wait until this Sunday before announcing the squad" Hodgson said.

"We have a large of number of players that still need confirming regarding availability and fitness so rather than selecting a larger squad now, we will wait for the games at the weekend before choosing around 23 players who are definitely available."

My gut feel tells me that Shelvey will be in the squad but Cork is likely to have to wait but on the form he has at the moment there is nothing to suggest he won't make it this season.

Time will of course tell but it is over to you Woy!
