Ki Set To Win Newcastle Fitness Race Friday, 14th Aug 2015 06:45 by Planet Swans (follow us on Twitter @swansnews) The Swans appear to have been given a fitness boost ahead of the weekend visit of Newcastle as Ki Sung-Yeung will be back on the training field today although he may need to make do with a bench place against Newcastle. Ki started last weekend's 2-2 draw with Chelsea but was replaced by Jack Cork in the first half as he went off with an injury. Cork - as you would expect - made the most of his chance and put in another superb performance for the Swans as they scared the Champions on their own patch almost pulling off a famous victory to start the season with. I would say it is unlikely that the Swans will risk Ki unless he is 100% fit and it would certainly seem harsh on Cork for him to be dropped to the bench again after such a good performance last weekend. Such is the strength of the Swans midfield at the moment that we can have these kind of discussions as bringing Ki back in would mean one of Cork, Shelvey or Sigurdsson missing out which is extremely difficult to do. And of course those discussions ignore the likes of Matt Grimes, Jay Fulton and of course Leon Britton and it is little wonder that Garry Monk can now rest players as a precaution - a luxury not afforded to many managers in the Swans history “It's not a serious injury, he's back on the field tomorrow,” said Monk at yesterday's press conference “Whether it's too soon for Saturday we'll see. The scans are fine.” Monk added: “It's more tightness and it's whether that tightness will affect him in a game. “Ki's a good professional and looks after himself and it wouldn't surprise me if he's available.” Photo: Action Images Please report offensive, libellous or inappropriate posts by using the links provided.
