Leon Britton insists that he has made no decisions as yet on his footballing future

The Swansea City midfielder could make his last appearance for the club tomorrow if things don't go to plan and results elsewhere and at the Liberty go against them.

And although Britton says that he could stay even if the Swans didn't make the play offs, he dropped the biggest hint yet that it was unlikely when he told the Western Mail “It won’t make my mind up, but it will probably influence it knowing where we are next season. I’m not going to lie, it’s going to affect my decision when we sit down and talk about things.

“I’m aware of interest, the chairman has already said there was interest in January, and I’m allowed to talk to other clubs – but I’ve said I was waiting until the end of the season before anything is decided.

“But the biggest thing I know is that there might not be another chance for me if an offer comes in. The age I am, if I sign for another three or four years then people are unlikely to take a chance on me. As it stands now, I’m on a free transfer too so I’m more attractive to take a punt on.

“I’d be a liar if I said I hadn’t sat down and thought about what life might be like away from Swansea,” added Britton. “But, at the same time, I’m not thinking that I’m definitely leaving and there’s still every chance I’ll be here at the start of next season. It’s just when you’re in this situation you have to look at both sides and at every possibility.

“All I know it will be strange if I was to leave.

“I’ve spent almost a quarter of my life here and it’s not often football players stay at clubs for that long.

“But it could be longer, there’s still a possibility I could spend the rest of my career here, it’s definitely an option.

“There’s targets I have, like playing 500 games – or reaching the Premier League.

“There’s a lot riding on it,” said the fan favourite, desperate to help produce an unlikely turnaround in top-six fortunes.

“But we still have a shout of getting back in right at the last moment. It’s frustrating for it not to be in our hands after so long.

“I don’t know why that’s happened, it’s not been a case of taking our eye off the ball or thinking we’d done enough.

“It might be just a case of us having a bad run at the wrong time and Blackpool having a good one.

“It can still happen for us and we’ll be making sure we do our part.

“That’s all my mind is on for now. My future can wait until after.”

And he added: “I said I’ll talk about my contract after the last game of the season. Hopefully there’s three more after Sunday.”
