Martinez Hints At Scotland Extension

Roberto Martinez has reacted to comments on Jason Scotland's contract extension and hinted it could be there

After Scotland's agent spoke out yesterday about a contract extension Roberto hinted there could be one in the offing.

Mike Berry said yesterday that his player may be ready to commit to the Swansea if there were improved terms available and today Roberto told the Western Mail “A contract extension could be a possibility

“Every time we go into the last 12 months of a contract we look at things and see how the player feels. It doesn’t surprise me to hear his agent saying such things.

“Jason wants to play for Swansea City, he enjoys his football here, he feels loved and I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to commit the rest of his career to this club.”

Scotland has grabbed 21 league goals this season - 24 in all competitions - taking his tally beyond 50 in his two year spell in South Wales.    And that in itself has been enough to attract interest from elsewhere but there is the chance he remains at Swansea - especially as the club are expected to be challenging for a Premiership place next season.

Martinez was in happy mood as well and has not given up hope of signing Gomez on top of this “Whatever happens Jordi has massively enjoyed his time here.

“Memories of Swansea City will stay with him for life and the fans will always remember Jordi’s football.

“Swansea City will always be an option for him if he wants to carry on developing and enjoying his football.

“But there are three parties involved and Espanyol will have a big say too.

“We will do anything we can to keep Jordi. But that’s only if he wants to stay.”
