Your Southampton v Liverpool Match Reports

A loss was not unexpected, but we could justifiably have taken a point here. We did enough in attack, Dibling and Onuachu put in some memorable work. It was defence that let us down today - the usual futzing around at the back, a McCarthy howler and a lot of standing around and not anticipating. Sugawara was a bit unlucky on that penalty call. We have a long way back out of the hole we have dug for ourselves. Doesn’t look promising right now.

What do expect with Downes @ Centre Half & Fraser @ Left Back. Add in the McCarthy factor & you get another defeat. At least there was a more positive intent but the senseless playing out from the back is killing us.
For gods sake sack RM me now.

Gifted all three goals. Painful to watch. Battled well but terrible errors at the back. Two more injuries as well.

The one thing we know is how to lose if only we new how to win that would be great. Actually l was glad to see Tall Paul playing he done a good job in my opinion and Dibling was excellent just hope we are able to keep him.Fernandes is the real deal but some dumb defending mistakes again did not help.

McCarthy started so well. He made some great saves, including a near-post rocket, and was well on his way to becoming the man of the match, but then came that quite ridiculous rolled-out clearance. We could have got away with it if our defenders had been a little more awake, including a poor clearance from Downes.
In general, we did well against one of the best European sides and it took a great Salah touch and an unlucky penalty award to defeat us.
We may well get defeated, but if they try as they did today, they deserve our support. I hope Tall Paul is fit for our remaining games. He grew into his role, and the crowd loved him.

Again we did it to ourselves. AM is at fault for 2 goals and their penalty was just bad luck. All the play form the back crap we did in the first 15 minutes was not a warning and for this RM should be sacked. He has not adapted his tactics and this is what cost us the game (along with AM).
On a separate note - on other sites the LPool fans are complaining that TD wasnt fouled and he "ran" in to their player. Typical whiners, yet VAR said there was not irrefutable evidence to over turn the on field decision - So basically, the ref got it right and leave it at that.

edit - "was a warning"
P.S. - Tall Paul showed he can play and again just shows how bad RM has done in picking players.
P.S.S. - Bench Jack - he is a sub at best and made multiple horrible passes.

A reasonably good showing with the usual shoot ourselves in the foot moments.
Onuachu showed he has the touch and ability to help us going forward. Got to feel a bit sorry for McCarthy, who pulled off some great saves but let himself down trying to comply with the ridiculous instruction to play out from the back, even so we could have let the first one go for a goal kick?
If RM learns nothing from this game then he is a far more obstinate than he appears to be!

Very frustrating. Great performance marred by a load of daft errors. Despite my misgivings before kickoff I really think we could have got something out of this game. As it is, all we've done is just put Fernandes and Dibling in the shop window.
Tall Paul is he Boufal in disguise?

American Saint, don’t worry what the s***bag scousers think - our penalty was definite &, IMHO, we should have had 1 in the 2nd half when Kelleher took out Armstrong, & maybe another in the 1st half as well, but I bet they didn’t mention that…..

Wow . We had the opportunity to beat the top side in the league. For me the ref im afraid was sucked into some bias decisions.
Our players getting fouled but waved away and theirs blown up for a free kick .*Not all though like in Previous Matches as i thought in the first half he did punish a couple of theirs during the half .i was surprised that Jack Stephens wasnt red carded for the antics with their forward in the penalty area but they were both nibbling each other , the only difference was big jack didnt go down and eat grass like a spoilt brat child . Thankfully the ref didnt buy it . .
Second half that changed , scouse had more intensity about their play our defending was getting more tired , we missed janny b .
McCarthy saved a few so im not gonna go at him for the 2nd goal . But jesus its embarrassing trying to play out against the current top team , who press and press and we gifted that goal .
Good points for me though Tall Paul gave them the run around at times , i hope his injury isnt a bad one . He deserves to have a run of games and sure as hell got the crowd going with his strength .
Young dibling and Fernandes too were very good if we can keep them it will be interesting next season in the championship.
Frustrating though is getting into advanced positions and it goes back to the centerback or keeper putting ourselves under pressure time and time again. Please sometimes, just effing launch it ! . Chase the second ball just sometimes.!?
Saints being saints our luck deserts us with their penalty and the injurys to our players influencing the play and why not bring archer for tall paul ?
Despite all that i still back the manager as we will need him next season

I am fed up with VAR decisions Why wasn't the foul on AA given by Oliver He was pushed, his shirt was pulled and he was tripped by the keeper How much more obvious does it need to be?
Our overall performance was definitely better but still no gold fish It wasn't hard to see why AM is our 3rd choice keeper I initially blamed JS for the first goal but saw on the replay that it was a poor clearance by Downes
I still don't see the point in replacing RM We are going down and will then need a championship manager with promotion gaining experience
