Blues Linked With Move for Coventry Defender

Town are reported to have made a bid for Coventry City central defender Richard Keogh. The 25-year-old was previously with the Blues as an Academy schoolboy when he was also a Portman Road ballboy.

The Harlow-born 6ft 2in tall defender won the Sky Blues’ 2011/12 Player of the Year - for the second season running - and Players’ Player of the Year awards but couldn’t prevent his side from being relegated to League One.

Several clubs are said to have shown an interest in January and Town may well face competition for the former Republic of Ireland U21 international’s signature. Coventry’s demotion is likely to mean his exit is all but certain.

Keogh, who is contracted until the summer of 2013, moved to Stoke — where he failed to make a senior appearance - after leaving Playford Road and then spent time with Icelandic side Víkingur (loan), Bristol City, Wycombe (loan), Huddersfield (loan), Carlisle (loan) and Cheltenham (loan).

In 2008 he moved to Carlisle on a permanent basis, before joining the Sky Blues for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2010.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has said he wants to add two central defenders to his squad over the summer with Tommy Smith and Damien Delaney currently the only two at the club, Ibrahima Sonko recently having joined Ívar Ingimarsson in being released.
