Dale will play their first August Bank Holiday Monday game since 2005 when they travel to York City on Monday afternoon.

On that occasion 18 years ago, Grant Holt scored in a 2-1 defeat at Darlington, but the date subsequently disappeared from the EFL calendar due to international weeks and an extended EFL Trophy.

York at Bootham Crescent used to be a cracking away trip, but The Minstermen now play at the out-of-town LNER Community Stadium, which spoils the day out somewhat.

Not that any of that will concern Monday’s referee, who is RICHARD ASPINALL from Blackpool.

Promoted to the National League list for this season, Monday will be Richard’s first game of the campaign, presumably because he has been in Australia watching and supporting wife Natalie, who has been officiating at the women’s World Cup.

Natalie and her English colleagues were in action at the third-place play-off between Australia and Sweden, but she will soon return to Premier League action.

Husband Richard refereed in the National League North last season, with his appointments including the play-off eliminator between Brackley Town and Gloucester City.
