Challenge Cup (egg chasers) on 13:33 - Feb 17 by rod_leach | I would have thought that if the crowd is likely to be bigger than Butterworth Park, then that's the sensible option. Why shouldn't they be able to maximise the potential earnings? |
Its 15 years since I had RL involvement, but back then, most Mayfield followers were Hornets fans as well, so I do not see this game attracting thousands. Recently, I seems that Wigan and Saints have attracted RL support, so maybe a few will have a look at this game. A full CPC for this would be good for Mayfield, IMHO. Bar takings would be outstanding.

Challenge Cup (egg chasers) on 11:39 - Feb 19 with 3498 views | mingthemerciless | Ok, I see the Stadium Company is down for discussion. At the last meeting I attended we were told the deal was done and dusted. Most Hornets fans I know have reluctantly accepted that this is the most sensible way forward and the assurances from the Football Club have to be taken at face value. That's got to be over a year ago. A few months back I heard un-officially the hold up was because the Council and the Rugby League are legally bound to get the best possible price for the shares. The Football Club didn't want to pay the price being quoted, so it was a stalemate. It's got nothing to do with me but I don't get this desire to buy back the shares other than a sentimental attachment. What can be done differently in the future that can't be done now ? Challenge Cup (egg chasers) on 12:28 - Feb 17 by KenBoon | Butterworth Park is more than big enough. |
It's not been called Butterworth Park for ages. It's Mayfield Sports Centre. As for hosting Hornets, it all comes down to whether the league think it is suitable. Spotland is fine for Hornets to play on, but Oldham Rugby Club's ground is similar to Mayfield's and Oldham have just been banned from playing on it for the season as it doesn't meet league standards. Another option would be Kingsway.

Oldham had to move as they was promoted to the championship and the requirements are that they need a minimum number of seats think it's about 800. Standards not as high for cup games so Mayfield could use their own ground if they want.

Mayfield hosed Barrw in the cup a few years ago so cannot see why RFL would see it differently now

Me too. They're missing out on dozens, if not hundreds, of potential extra spectators through playing on the same day as our fixture with Sheff Utd Edit: not only that, but fans travelling from certain parts of town will face traffic queues around Elizabethan Way as a couple of thousand Sheffield supporters head off the A627M from 1.30pm onwards, especially with the Milnrow Road blockage. Fixture planning at it's worst. [Post edited 22 Feb 2016 14:51]

That is a ballache. I was hoping it would be a Sunday K.O. as with most Hornets games as I fancied going. Dunno what sort of crossover Hornets/Dale fans have nowadays but I'm not going to miss one of the more attractive fixtures in Sheffield United at home. Shame. I seem to recall Hornets game v Roughyeds last year was on the day we played away at Preston , another game I fancied taking in but football took my fancy more.

According to todays " Rugby League Express " the KO time is 13-30. Somebody else told me it's a 2-30 KO. Seems like a bit of a shambles at the moment. [Post edited 22 Feb 2016 19:03]

Hornets Challenge Cup against Mayfield is Saturday 27th Feb at Mayfield with a 2.00pm kick off.
Challenge Cup (egg chasers) on 21:16 - Feb 22 with 2273 views | pioneer | Assuming all at Mayfield will be from Rochdale (area) it will be interesting to compare the attendance with the Dale attendance net of away fans on Saturday. Mayfield want their best chance of winning and playing a super league team in the next round which I suspect is why they are playing on Saturday (their normal playing day) and at home. I dont expect they see the local football team taking away many or any potential speccies. Note admission is a tenner for adults
Challenge Cup (egg chasers) on 21:44 - Feb 22 with 2240 views | mingthemerciless | There used to quite a lot of people who went to the Football on Saturday and the Rugby on Sunday. There's not as many now but I still know a few who do both.

agree but as I said, i dont think they see losing many to the football on saturday...recent games have been lets say turgid, the manager has lets say a less than welcoming attitude towards supporters, the Mayfield game is quite historic, at least locally and it only a tenner in. And its better beer at Mayfield I havent decided which game to go to yet
