Trust meeting report/working on some ideas thread 18:59 - Mar 10 with 1608 views | 442Dale | http://daletrust.com/news/?p=1455 Good report from the meeting with directors and very encouraging to read that some of the concerns raised amongst supporters in general have been addressed/acknowledged by the club. The following bit was an interesting and encouraging read: "The board said that it would be easy to make excuses for the lack of home attendances and it was a concern that they shared. A number of things had been put into place already, such as the reduced admission for under sixteens — which has seen a significant rise in this age bracket, but overall it was hoped that attendances would be higher. The Trust detailed some of the initiatives that they’d looked at, including a “Retweet campaign” for the Oxford home game which reached a potential audience of over 30,000, and a rallying call by the Trust Chairman in the Observer. The Trust offered to work with the club with a view to further promotion of games, perhaps in the longer term, and the club were happy to take any help on board with this." ===== With that in mind, all Trust members and fans can obviously play their part. Maybe we can come up with some ideas on this thread? If any help may prove to be beneficial to the club, chucking out a few thoughts on here that can be refined and worked upon could be a good forum to start (avoided the use of "brainstorming", "blue-sky thinking" and other such nonsense!) There have been some cracking ideas that people have posted on here in recent times: capturing supporter info on reverse of tickets, email letters from Keith Hill, blanket ticket initiatives in all schools, combo offers for games played in the same period etc, etc - apologies for forgetting any of the others. Try and keep any posts positive, there is no need to point out what might or might not have been done differently in the past. If necessary I'm sure we can collate all the ideas into some sort of working document that can be sent onto the Trust via any members who wish to take part. Nothing wrong with dismantling what people post, as long as it stays positive and improves the initial idea. Of course, this might all fizzle out in about an hour, but nothing wrong with trying things out. [Post edited 10 Mar 2014 19:01]

I think I'm right in saying that the toughest part of this is getting the schools to give the tickets out. The FITC have some excellent links with many schools in the area, but in some schools there is a real reluctance to give away the tickets, even tho they're free.

My lad (aged 6) has had a ticket once in the last couple of seasons, so not sure how it's done. Expanding upon it and promoting that we're trying to capture the imagination of ALL potential young fans in the town is perhaps worth a go. Anyone got anything to add to this one: give a free ticket to every primary school child in the borough, the ticket allows an accompanying adult in for a tenner. House them all in the Wilbutts to monitor take up and it gives the opportunity to have an 'event area' giving out free stuff, mascots greeting kids etc. Looking at the fixtures, it's something that might have to wait to pre-season: if we arrange a friendly in the first week of the holidays, do it then as long as the opponents only need a third of the Wilbutts. It could be done in stages with a lesser number of tickets given out if the expected take up might be too many (!). Possibly worth trying for the Good Friday game v Southend (2500 tickets given out?), promote it as an Easter Holiday event, the PR alone would rise the profile of the club significantly. Edit: Col's point is a valid one, so that'll need establishing. But if it's promoted as though they're taking part in a real event in the town, hopefully those who may have resisted before can be persuaded to opt in too. [Post edited 10 Mar 2014 19:35]

Without using a cliche they genuinely are the future and getting kids gripped very young is the key and well worth the free tickets for EVERY home game for future revenues, as rightly said theres always a paying adult with them too but again this should be done at a discounted rate as 442 mentions, its a no brainer. Burys pricing scheme was interesting as they had an under 23 ticket, priced at 10 quid which is good value I think and could be worth pushing with the college on the doorstep too?

If there's a way for the tickets which are handed over at the turnstiles to identify which school the child attends (i.e. a simple code number on the back), how about a reward for the school from which the most tickets are utilised? That could be anything from a visit by the squad to encourage fitness during games sessions to the purchase of school exercise equipment, or whatever. Could be 1st, 2nd, 3rd prizes. In addition, any school with close to zero utilisation could have a questionnaire sent, or simply ignored the following season to stop wasting the club's time (but try again the season after). I know freebies at Wigan always have the name of the school/football club/scout group/whatever printed on them. If not many tickets are used, they don't get as many for the next game.

That sounds about right. Like most of these things, it's pretty easy to evaluate. It could initially begin with five entire schools - about 1500 tickets? - then work out where to improve and spread further. If its part of a campaign, it can be broken down to a series of "events" under one banner ('The Town's Team'??? Anything which focuses on getting kids and families thinking about their locality and feeling involved) which get both initial and ongoing positive PR coverage. By the way, there's bound to be other ideas except those aimed at younger fans, get those on the thread too. Already this illustrates that if any help is welcome, then fans have experiences and thoughts that do just that.

There may be individual schools who feel this way. I'm sure some of our resident teachers on here can confirm this doesn't have to be an issue - see D_Alien's post about targeting those who take part. It's up to the parent if they want to take advantage of the tickets; if any school was responsible for what happened at a game, there would be no schools giving out tickets anywhere in the country.

Correction either of the post or for the schools. The school is no way responsible unless they are taking the kids themselves, no risk assessment required.

Making sure the offer is well publicised around other North West clubs is the key when it comes to this offer. How much would it cost to advertise the promotion a few times in the Free Metro/ Manchester Evening News/ Local Radio/prominent billboard? Would there be a problem putting a feature in the programme of all the local clubs, City/United/ Bolton/ etc etc ? I think there also has to be a offer of bringing kids for free because its the kids who will mither the parents to repeat the experience. Sometimes you have to speculate to accumulate, maybe the Trust could help with advertising costs, people more qualified than me would probably know if it would be worthwhile taking a punt.

Below are three ideas from this thread, if anyone has comments or new ideas they want raising in the future, stick them on here and we'll try and follow the same process and see how it works. Alternatively contact the Trust directly via their site daletrust.com 1) can the club run a specific initiative to target entire primary schools, whether individually or in groups? Free child tickets with money off for accompanying adults and a follow up procedure set up to monitor success. 2) are there any plans to target the local college to not only attract fans with ticket promotions, but utilise their resources to work together (eg. They could carry out supporter surveys)? 3) money off for season ticket holders at other clubs. Could there be a £10 a ticket offer at certain games?  How much would it cost to advertise the promotion a few times in the Free Metro/ Manchester Evening News/ Local Radio/prominent billboard? Would there be a problem putting a feature in the programme of all the local clubs, City/United/ Bolton/ etc etc ?  Again, can plans be put in place to monitor the success of this to target those fans to return? (when they might even pay full price!)

Think FITC already do something with giving out tickets, but it's a good idea to have some incentive for adults who bring them along - like the idea with schools tickets.

What about getting one of the colleges to take on board a project of marketing the club for their students who are doing a marketing course. It could form part of their exam marks. Fresh ideas and plenty of enthusiasm
