Interesting thoughts from the Chief on 13:17 - Aug 5 with 2338 views | Hunterhoop | Indeed. And once again, it raises that good point that simply "being vocal" doesn't make you a good leader. He's making the (basic) point that leadership is about matching your approach to the individual, rather than simply conveying the message in the same way (by shouting at everyone). It's correct, albeit fairly obvious. But it does challenge this consensus that "because I can't hear him" he's not a good captain. The players and coaching staff are in by far the best position to judge whether he's a good leader, and the overwhelming consensus (two successive managers, not a bad word spoken about him by anyone - players or staff - at the club) is that he is well respected and a good leader. Finally, I simply don't get this school of thought that he "can't play RB". He played RB when and had Bale in his pocket a few years ago. He was RB when we beat Chelsea 1-0 at their gaff. When we went on that run of home wins the season we stayed up in the Prem, he was RB. Last year, when he moved RB under JFH, in place of Perch, our goals conceded per game drastically improved, albeit that could have been down to JFH coming in, and a different CB partnership. Nevertheless, he has proven he absolutely can play RB well. That doesn't mean he does always play it well. There have been some shocking performances at RB too (Fulham springs to mind, I think), but he can do it very effectively. Yes, he's not Dani Alves on the ball, he's rudimentary at best in possession. But he's a perfectly capable RB, and actually a very good, aware RB when it comes to covering the CBs. All this, and frankly, he's still, and always has been a good CB for us. He's not perfect, not as good as we thought he'd be, or probably as he should be, but that doesn't make him bad. He's still a very good player at Championship level, and a very good bloke, and he's taken a pay cut since being here, so he's not on one of these major old Prem contracts. Don't understand why more fans don't get behind him a bit more. Oh, and he hates Barton Balls. What's not to like?! [Post edited 5 Aug 2016 13:18]

Interesting thoughts from the Chief on 15:43 - Aug 5 with 2170 views | RBlock | I think it isn't that he can't play RB, it is that he is a very unorthodox RB. Ned is never going to bomb on and offer the overlap, but neither is Bidwell, that isn't the issue. He never seems comfortable on the ball, and his distribution can be very poor at times (see Oneil's Red v Derby). I struggle to remember him whipping in any great crosses since he has been with us, and he does seem to like that Rugby Union-esque chip down the line to nobody in particular.

The problem I had with him is the same problem a few on here had with Green. He was on big wages and I didn't feel his performance's justified his premier league wage. We've been so keen to get rid of these high earners not pulling their weight, it just baffled me how Ned got away with it. Maybe his contract has changed and he's affordable now but out of Caulker or Ned I would take Caulker, based on football ability. I really like the bloke and I know I'm being harsh on him and I haven't got a problem with him staying really ,he's obviously well regarded at the club and fans love him. I thought we started to improve our defence last season not because he moved to RB but more because Hill came back and Perch played a blinder at LB. I would be more comfortable with Lynch/Caulker and Hall as CB with Perch playing RB and Bidwell LB.

Interesting thoughts from the Chief on 13:36 - Aug 12 with 1117 views | Hunterhoop | http://www.getwestlondon.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/nedum-onuoha-things- Whatever you think of him as a captain on the pitch, yet more evidence that he's a leader off the pitch. Love the way he speaks of Grant Hall. The words he uses indicate he's taking a paternal, senior pro role off the pitch, which is exactly what we need. And he's clearly the "leader" when it comes to the playing squad, given that he's the one setting the expectation. Also, interesting the common about how "intense" the manager is. That's probably a good thing, but also good to have a player who is conscious of it, can feed it back to the manager, and help players adjust to it.
