QPR have issued their summer release list with five out of contract names on it and few surprises amongst them.

QPR are releasing five players at the end of their contracts in June. From the seior squad Zesh Rehman, Liam Miller and Jake Cole will be seeking employment while youngsters Danny Maguire and Chris Arthur leave Rangers without a first team appearance to their names.

Miller signed for QPR on a short term deal from Sunderland in January but despite a bright start to life at Loftus Road the Irish international, recommended to Rangers by his national boss Giovani Trapattoni, rarely shone in a mediocre side. After 11 starts and two sub appearances with no goals it is no surprise to see the former Celtic and Man Utd man released not only because he was not that good, but also because it was reported on LFW a week ago that his deal was not being renewed and he is currently training with Cork City.

The departure of Rehman has also raised few eyebrows. Gary Waddock brought the Pakistan international from Fulham for £250,000 2006/07 to replace Danny Shittu who had left for Watford that summer. Shittu’s were big boots to fill and although Rehman started reasonably well his form and confidence quickly tailed away. A nightmare performance in a 3-3 draw with Norwich at Loftus Road had the infamous Loftus Road boo boys on his case and he suffered still further by being bumped from centre half, where he was suspect, to full back, where he was absymal.

John Gregory loaned Rehman to Brighton at the end of his first season but put him in the team again in 2007/08 before getting the sack. Rehman sadly always looked accident prone and lacking sufficient quality for Championship football although did appear to be making progress under Luigi De Canio. He was loaned to Blackpool as part of the Kaspars Gorkss deal for the first half of this season but barely made it off the bench before enjoying a rather more successful spell with League Two Bradford. His release on a free transfer is sure to alert sides in League One and Two where he should excel, and despite regular criticisim of him on this website I genuinly do wish him all the best. Rehman was a superb ambassador for our club off the pitch and could never be accused of giving anything less than 100 per cent on it.

Jake Cole is a product of the QPR youth team but only made a handfull of first team appearances despite impressing with his shot stopping on every occasion he was called upon. Cole spent time out on loan at Farnborough, Oxford and most recently Barnet and is now getting to the age where he needs to be playing regular first team football so again he goes with our best wishes and we will monitor his progress closely.

Maguire and Arthur are also graduates of the QPR youth set up but are now released without making a first team appearance. Maguire spent time on trial at Crystal Palace and on loan at Yeovil last season and is highly rated by regular watchers of the youth and reserve sides. It’s always a shame to see people released without ever getting a chance in the first team and again I will follow both players’ progress on these pages.

Spanish midfielder Jordi Lopez is not among the names released today and his future remains up in the air.

The rumour mill has been churning again today with the Daily Mail claiming an “exclusive” that Jim Magilton is about to beat Colin Calderwood to the QPR manager’s post. On the player side of things Leicester’s DJ Campbell, who ended the season on loan at Blackpool, has been linked with a summer move to Loftus Road and I certainly wouldn’t be adverse to that move.

In former QPR news cultured centre half Andy Tillson, who joined the R’s from Grimsby Town when Bobby Gould was brought in to help Don Howe overcome an injury crisis, has been confirmed as the new assistant manager at Weymouth. One time QPR loanee, honestly he was here briefly in our relegation season of 2000/01 scoring once, Paul Peschisolido has been appointed the manager of newly promoted Burton Albion.

Elsewhere in the Championship today Graham Poll has condemned the decision by the Welsh FA to release Cardiff City without charge after Mike Dean was hit by a coin earlier this season. Derby County’s strengthening gathers pace with a bid for Exeter’s Dean Moxey and Swansea have had an offer accepted for Liverpool winger Paul Anderson who had previously been on loan at the Liberty Stadium but spent last season with Nottingham Forest. Departed Blackpool caretaker Tony Parkes has dismissed the club’s claim that he left to spend time with his cancer stricken wife, stating that chairman Karl Oyston had simply not made him an adequate offer to stay. Finally, should we be planning to reach such an occasion in the future, it may be worth taking note of the farcical arrangements for distribution of play off final tickets being imposed this year – clubs must sell their allocations block by block restricting supporter choice on price and view. The farce deepened today when it transpired that Burnley have sold a block of seats designated for segregaton rather than sale.
