I met Bill when he was maybe 70 years old in the early seventies. We were both employed as cricket scoreboard operators at St Helens and we struck up a friendship. Bill told me of his move to the Vetch, from Boston maybe? I think he later played for QPR but returned to live in Swansea when he retired having married a local girl. He only played a couple of times for the first team but was a great success in the Reserves, so much so that he was selected for the Welsh League in a number of representative matchesincluding the Irish League away. He showed me a medal from one of these - he'd had to pawn the others at some stage. We'd meet and go to the Vetch - I was amazed when another couple of old guys recognised him almost fifty years after he'd played! We went to the library and found papers reporting his goals for the Swans. Sadly we lost touch when I moved.
