Don’t panic, Diouf is staying put
Don’t panic, Diouf is staying put
Thursday, 9th May 2013 21:48 by Tim Whelan

There was dancing in the streets of Ashby-de-la-Zouch tonight when my co-writer and his family heard that their cult hero will be staying at Leeds after all.

Earlier in the day Guinean club AS Kaloum claimed that they expect to sign Diouf during the transfer window, and they were close to agreeing a deal with the 32 year-old. But although Diouf has been in the area to play in a number of charity footballing events in his native Senegal (which my trusty atlas tells me is right next to Guinea) our man has denied that he took the opportunity to talk to AS Kaloum.

He told the official site "It's complete rubbish. I have a contract with Leeds United, I will be back for pre-season training on June 27, and I'm looking forward to the new season."

I don’t know whether spitting and testicle-fondling is more acceptable in West African football than it is here, but as he has a year left on his current deal at Leeds, so it’s difficult to see how a club in Guinea could possibly offer him the wages to match the contract he’s currently on at Elland Road. Norwich City they are not.

So rest assured, Diouf will be around to bring a touch of class to the Leeds forward line as we look forward to an exciting new season.
