Loan players leave Spotland
Loan players leave Spotland

Loan players Will Atkinson, Josh Thompson and Craig Dawson have left Spotland following the completion of their loan spells at the club.

The Thompson loan deal did not work out as originally thought through no fault of the player himself. Brought in to add competition to Dawson and Holness, he found himself unable to break into the first team with any regularity and it was only in the last couple of games of the season where he was even given a run out in his best position. The Celtic defender leaves Spotland with a total of fourteen appearances in Dale colours, with one goal.

As acknowledged by Dale boss Keith Hill, Will Atkinson's loan spell wasn't quite as successful second time round, but it was always going to be hard to live up to that first spell in charge at the club. He returns to Hull having added another twenty one appearances for Dale with another two goals.

And as for Dawson? Well he heads off to start his Premiership career after two of the most successful years at Dale that he could ever have imagined.

How can we do anything but wish Craig good luck, he brought excitement, involvement and a real connection to the fans. It must be a great source of pride to the Management team to see where he started and where he is now. And don't forget that rarest of things for Dale, a decent sum of money.
