Pearson in place as Cook pens new-deal

Leeds confirmed that Lewis Cook will stay at Elland Road and there was also the return of a familiar-face with another one rumoured to be round the corner.

Lewis Cook has signed an extension to his Leeds United contract.

The promising 18-year-old, one of last-seasons few success stories will stay at Leeds until 2017 in the face of speculation linking him with a move to the Premiership.

Leeds fans will welcome the fact that the club has tied-down one of its brightest young stars for the foreseeable future and the short length of the contract hopefully indicates the club are gearing up to get themselves back into the top flight eleven years after relegation within the next couple of seasons? Cook has a bright future in the game and has ambition beyond the lower mid-table mediocrity we've been accustomed over the last three-seasons.

Leeds just need to sort-out new deals for Alex Mowatt and Sam Byram now! In what will be seen as another positive move by under-fire owner Massimo Cellino, Adam Pearson returns to the club as Chief Executive after an absence of 15 years. Surely one of Pearson's first tasks will be to tie-down the talented duo to new deals?

Pearson leaves Sheffield Wednesday after less than a month spent at Hillsborough as part of a "three-man advisory committee", whatever that was.

I'm quite cynical about all these fancy titles and I believe its a curse of the modern-game that fans are almost as likely to know who the Chief Executive is as much as the centre-forward. However the commercial-aspect of the game means such a role exists and Leeds have been without one since Matt Child quit amidst the chaos that ensued during Cellino's ban.

Hopefully Pearson will bring some much needed stability to the behind-the-scenes goings-on at the club, his mandate appears to be to "help Cellino" with the day to day running of things. I'm sure someone as savvy and experienced as Pearson won't tolerate Cellino's legendary "interference" with his employees' work.

In this instance, Pearson comes with a wealth of experience. He has performed similar roles at Hull City and Derby, he is also the owner of Super League club Hull FC. He was of course Chief Exec at Elland Road during the start of the fateful Peter Ridsdale era, arguably something we are still paying for now.

According to media reports we could be reunited with another name from those days, keeper Paul Robinson is now a free-agent having left Blackburn Rovers.

As to who the head-coach will be so anyone's guess with still no-word on Neil Redfearns future.
