Two New Players - answer to Blackpool's problems? Monday, 29th Sep 2014 19:09 by Editor Jose Riga has said that Blackpool are lacking experience, quality and numbers. So have the arrival of two new players answered Riga's frequent requests for additions to his squad? If the Seasiders manager expected the purse strings to open to achieve this, then he'll be disappointed as both players are free transfers. So what can we expect from Andre Blackman and Formose Mendy? Well neither are youngsters and have been around in the game for a few years but whether either have the quality that Blackpool so desperately need can only be answered with some game time. Blackman has snook through the back door really and his presence at training at Squires Gate seems to have gone largely unnoticed but nevertheless he's been training with the squad throughout September. He's got decent pedigree having come through the youth systems at Arsenal and Tottenham and has recently played with Celtic (we'll brush over the blot on the copybook which was a spell with AFC Wimbledon). The winger has signed until the end of the season (and 'altogether now' also has a year's option). Maybe more interesting is Fermose Mendy who fans will be eagerly looking up on the internet for any signs of what he'll be like. Two years older than Andre at 25 he's had spells with Puertollano and Sporting Gijon in Spain, and has one international cap for Guinea-Bissau. You could ask what the player has that Angel didn't having played in the Spanish league and whether he'll be another body or a player who will make a difference. Certainly with regards goals, he's a bit shy in the 18 yard box scoring only 5 times in 105 appearances. They are hardly signings which will get Blackpool fans enthused or encouraged but it's two more players who potentially could eventually fit in to this bizarre jigsaw which Riga is trying to put together.
